Default Resolution Issues on Desktop Manager Start up

Please Login to Remove!

Hello Everyone,

I'm having issues helping a friend of the family setup his Blackberry Storm 9530 smartphone so that he can sync it with his pc. Mainly to sync with outlook express. He was having issues installing the Blackberry Desktop Manager and contacted me to help get through the installation. Once I solved the issue with the installation problem and got Desktop Manager installed, Another issues has come up. I've hunted everywhere and can't find a solution. Unless I'm searching for the wrong stuff.

So here is the deal. After installing the application Desktop Manager 4.7 and starting the application, the monitor blacks out and comes back instantly. Upon it blinking off then on the computers color quality changes from 32 bits to 8 bit (low). The whole pc changes to strange coloring. Once closing the Desktop Manager the color returns to normal however the pc under Display Properties stays at 8 bits and I then have to change it back to Highest (32 bit). This happens every time I start the application.

I've since then done a complete wipe of Desktop Manager/RIM including the registry keys etc etc and reinstalled. I've also wiped it out and tried several version of Desktop Manager and still come up with the same problem.

Has anyone had this issue before? If So Please Help!

Also the pc is using Windows XP with Service Pack 3 if that information is needed.

Thanks,
InjenCorp

I'm going to take a shot in the dark here, but does he have his graphics drivers installed/updates?

that could do it.

This situation did not exist prior to installing Desktop Manager?

I will check and make sure his graphic drivers are updated. and no this problem did not exist until after installing the software. It only happens when opening the desktop manager up

Sorry this took so long I could only work on this so long yesterday.
The Driver detected is an Intel(R) 945G it saies the current driver installed is 6.14.10.4396

Upon using the Intel(R) Driver Update Utility it saies the following.
A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer.
The Intel Driver update utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues. Contact your computer manufactuere for the latest driver for your computer.

So I went to the dell website and downloaded the drivers for his computer using the service tag on his pc. As far as I can tell it is updated. And the issue is still there.

What screen resolution are you using? You find it in your display setting.

Right click your desktop, go to properties int he display settings window, go to the settings tab and look at the screen resolution, turn it to the right a few spaces.. (I would move it to the max, accept the changes, reboot the PC and then relaunch the Desktop manager with that screen resolution.

Make the resolution on your monitor greater then 1024X768

The pc screen resolution goes from 800 by 600 to 1600 by 1200 pixels. When I looked it was sitting on 1280 by 1024 pixels. I've attempted several resolutions however when starting desktop manager the only thing that really changes is the color quality in the Display Properties, it goes from 32 bit to 8 bit.

** EDIT **
I find it odd that its changing to 8 bit because when the desktop manager isn't open 8 bit isn't even an option for color quality. It only shows up when the application is open

I think DM is running in compatbility mode (check box of "run in 256 colours").
I just tried this and it happened to my pc.
weird colours, blocky pixels etc

right click DM, properties-compatibilty tab.
about half way down there will be a check box with "run in 256 colours"
I think it might be checked.
uncheck it, click ok.
try DM again

No idea why it would be running like that without checking it first, but there you go.
Glad it's fixed!

I am back again with a new issue. We are trying to setup Desktop Manager 4.7 to Sync with outlook. To my understanding I click Synchronize - then go to Synchronization under Configure and click Synchronization. This is suposed to begin the configure sync settings. However when clicking Synchronization the program locks up and crashes. The only thing I get is a windows report pop up. Blackberry Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the Inconvenience.

The only thing so far i've found on this is to clear out the folders under
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Intellisync

I've done this and tried again same problem crashes after clicking the Synchronize Button under Configuration. Sorry guys but this thing has been giving me hell for 3 days and I'm ready to get this done. Thanks for all your help and support.

ok try control panel-add/remove programs highlight DM, click change (if its there, uninstall if not)
DM box should pop up, click repair.
Let it do its thing.
Then re-boot PC.

Load up, click DM. let that load.
THEN plug in the BB. let that recognise etc.
And try the sync as before.

Only thing I can think of is to uninstall.
reboot
reinstal.
check the compatibilty before you open, make sure it isnt running in 256 colours.
then connect BB. wait 30 seconds
open up DM and try again

alright just did the fresh install. Desktop Manager 4.7. Started up DM went to sync under configuration and still got the crash. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Is there any other software I need to be downloading with DM to make it work properly. I have all the system requirements as far as i can tell.

Ok midnight I got it. When I went to check the 256 colour box wasn't check and it wasn't, that was all I checked. However there is compatibility box to choose compatibility for windows 2000 etc etc and it was still checked, I turned it off and it now the program works perfect. So again Thanks for all your help all the problems are solved and we did our first complete sync.
