Default What made you return your Tour? Here's what did it for me...

Please Login to Remove!

I've heard all the people talking about how the device is "new" and thus we should expect bugs (RIM's co-CEO also mentioned this in a speech several months ago). I think this is total BS and a lame excuse. My Curve came error free on release day, yet every Blackberry since then has gone down hill. Oddly enough, every OS update to the Curve since my original one has done more harm than good (think speakerphone blast, etc. on 4.5).

Below are the problems I experienced, and why I returned mine back to Verizon only a few days after purchasing.
  1. Muffled audio - I tried 5 different handsets in the store and 5 different friend's handsets and they all sounded bad through the speakerphone and handset (Bluetooth and wired headset did sound fine).
  2. Trackball - it was more sensitive going vertical than horizontal. Even after I changed settings, the thing quit working for scrolling down after only a few days.
  3. Doing a battery pull not only takes like 5 minutes, but it erases your home screen image (goes back to OOB).
  4. They took away my "r" shortcut for the alarm and replaced it with....nothing!
  5. Battery door is just unacceptable for a $500 retail price device. Keep in mind that even if you're getting the phone free from your provider, they still paid close to $500 for it, and you're repaying them through higher monthly bills.
  6. Vibrate was so weak, I couldn't even feel it when I sat it directly on my thigh and called myself.
  7. Profiles - this has been discussed already on the forums. I really don't like how they did this on the 4.7+ OS build. I don't believe the talk that it was intentional (anyone in IT can recall a time when something shipped with a "bug" that was renamed a "feature").
  8. Themes - ships with two. Are you kidding me?

As you can see, I was not happy at all with my Tour. I'm frankly so frustrated with the RIM devices as of late that the Curve is likely to be my last. Either RIM QA is asleep at the wheel or they just don't care and ship it w/o proper defect resolution. I understand the idea of getting something to market quickly, but we're not talking about a hugely innovative product like the color television replacing B&W. The Tour is an incremental release (all I was looking for was GPS capability on Verizon's network) that should've been shipped when it was more stable.

Do I have any seconds? (I'm sure I'll have plenty of blasts against my opinion).

I set one of my convenience keys to open the alarm. That took care of it for me.
With profiles, I was used to the old way, but honestly, this is a minor thing and took me about 4 minutes to adjust.
Themes will come. There are none out there yet. My Sprint Tour only shipped with one! But really, is this a reason to take it back? Is that where we are, worried about themes?

I have no muffled audio, no trackball problems, and the battery door is perfectly tight on mine. I also find the vibrate feature sufficient and feel it every time.

I do agree that it takes forever to reboot. Longest of any BlackBerry I've owned, by FAR! Fortunately I rarely have cause to reboot it.

What's the estimated time for a reboot?

I did a reboot on the store model and it took longer then I thought and I walked away :(

I agree with Rambo.

I have had one person whom I talk to frequently tell me my voice sounds "muffled". So I have asked others. They disagree. They tell me they can't tell the difference between Blackberry and wired phone.

So, I ask and get told by this person that many people sound muffled, to which I reply "Then stop whining to me and get YOUR phone fixed!"

I have started using enhanced audio once again. I have it set to boost treble and like the audio better, not that it was bad.

The rest has been well discussed and for me is absolutely no reason to go back. My Curve was a great device. The Tour surpasses it by miles.

Just timed mine.

From battery insertion to completion of "Verifying Security Software" 7 minutes, 35 seconds. (I know, ICK)

I tried Alt-Shift-Del on my Tour. All it seems to do is lock the keyboard. Anyone else try?

And lastly, via QuickPull: about 6 minutes, 30 seconds.

My speed dial A locks the device. Not my plan. You may have a similiar issue.

Ye sit does take several minutes after a reboot

Left Alt, Right Shift, Delete on my Sprint Tour = 3 min 31 sec to reboot.

I also have a sensitivity issue with the trackball, but it only seems to manifest in the icon screens. The arrow on the web browser moves around just fine. I have learned that a lighter touch makes it work better on the icon screen, but I will wait until there are some in stores to go see if it is worth sending back for a refurb. I think its a software issue, not really the hardware.

Overall mine feels good and has great phone audio. My wife noticed right away the difference between the old 8830 and the Tour.

I'm keeping the tour - its working great.

Ugh - I got it to work. Stupid fat fingers pushing the enter key too.

Alt-Shift-Del: 6 minutes 55 seconds.

You must have a TurboTour!!

For reference, my 8830 just took 3 minutes and 30 seconds to reboot - and it always feels like an eternity when you have to do it when in a jam. 7 minutes is a tough pill to swallow. Here's hoping I'll only have to reboot the Tour half as often.

Battery pulls.....

My 8830 took 58 seconds.

My Tour takes approx 3 - 4 minutes.

This is a Sprint 9630, if that matters.

Yeah it is. There is no reason it should take that long.

Daily battery pull to restore data signal in areas where my 8830 never went out.

I had a trackball problem, had to return the first Tour because of it. My second tour's trackball is working fine.

I haven't had to reboot very often, with my 8830 I was battery pulling all the time.

Sound quality - meh. Using enhanced audio helps.

Profiles - I liked the old way better, but frankly the new way is fine. I just don't like change.

Themes - no biggie. Just set your own wallpaper and it will look like you have a new theme.

I love my little tour.

Well it sounds like the Tour is not all it was made out to be. I was lookiing at that on Sprint then dropped that company and went to ATT. Picked up a Nokia e71x there.

My battery pull to reboot...oh wait, I have yet to have to do that so I don't know
