Default You have to pay for GPS?

This was another thread here. It says you pay $6/mo for 10 uses of the TeleNav GPS feature, or $10 for unlimited. I figured it would be free, didn't you? Hell, you can pay to use a similar feature with VZN phones and they don't even have a GPS in them. That stinks IMP.

You have to pay to use the telenav branded GPS service. You do not have to pay to use the built in GPD chipset with a free service like bbmaps or google maps.

This has been covered in the forum already, telenav is a new service for cingular so they are promoting it heavily. The GPS chipset will work fine with bbmaps, check the blackberry101 training presentation for screenshots.

OK thanks for clearing that up. I figured you could use it for free, but the pricing list confused me.

The question from me is, how are they differentiating telenav from the free services to make it worth $10 a month? Does anyone know that?

Folks please read this to develop and opinion as to whether the price is worth it. Take your time with the screen shots but note the discussion of the new features on BBMaps that will be on the 8800.

Smile Yes

On my 7130e (on Verizon),
With the free maps program from BB and my DeLorme bluetooth GPS, I get very good results for the price - Free. Of course, you also need a data plan.
