Default Rebooting Classic?

Please Login to Remove!

So coming from a 9930, I was considering the Classic but I swap batteries daily which helps my 9930 reboot due to the battery pull. However, since the Classic unfortunately has a non-removeable battery, how does one do a full reboot of the phone? Is it a) necessary and b) even if it's not necessary, can the non-removeable battery be disconnect by a cable and if so how hard is it to get to? Just wondering about the design...

Thanks.

b) Don't know. Maybe, some disassembly required.

a) I don't think so.

Even when I had the Z10 (removable battery) I never did battery pulls. On the forums you still see people do a battery pull at the drop of a hat; which really wasn't even necessary all the time with BBID, and is an extreme solution for BB10 models that do have removable battery.

For BB10 models with non-removable batteries as well as models with removable battery, there are two methods of initiating a soft reset which shut down apps and the OS and reboots. One is using the power button, the other using the up and down volume buttons. See KB02141-Reset a BlackBerry smartphone

Finally, i used the Z10 and now use Passport. I don't do soft resets often enough to remember doing one. If there is something weird happening, I reboot and that fixes the issue.

I agree with aiharkness. There is no need to pull the battery - even if you could - and a soft reset cures 95% of any problems you might have. To answer your question, a full reboot is very rarely necessary.

It's always good to have a battery that's removable or replaceable regardless.
LIon battery's don't do well if discharged and avoiding a repair shop is better if a simple battery replacement is possible.

PlayBook bought day it went on sale is still going.

BlackBerry after BlackBerry I have used for a few years and then handed down to wife for her to use for a few years, all with the original battery.

I'm not worried. Battery failure may happen, but I see low risk.

Biggest reason for removable battery for me was so I could use a spare on long days. This isn't an issue for me with Passport.

If BlackBerry moves to non-removable battery, then I do as well.

I agree, I just like the ability. Some of my friends have I-Phones and they have had battery issues

Ok, thanks for the info. I travel on and off and like the fact that I can just throw in a another battery and keep going. I also liked the fact that I was able to put the discharged battery in an external charger while having another full one in the phone w/o having to wait for it to charge (the main reason why I liked external batteries).

As for the reboots, I did a few on the 9930 via the KB instead of the battery pull so I won't have an issue doing that on the Classic either.

All in all, I still wish it was removable so I could charge externally but that's just my preference. I have an iPhone 5 for work and I can't stand it (the on screen typing along with running around with a lightning cable to charge it). I have noticed that most manufacturer's are getting away from the removable battery; not just Blackberry. I see Samsung's Galaxy S6 that is coming out no longer has removable batteries either (along with no SD card slot which I really can't understand but that's another story).

Thanks again.

I like removable battery as well, but those days are probably all behind us now.

Thanks for this. I was actually looking at external chargers but found them to be to large to carry around. This one seems like the right size but at 2100mAH, I wonder a) how many charges I can get for the Classic (maybe one or just under one) and b) how long at 1.0A out will it take to do a full charge.

Thanks again.

If you do not have a backup there is not much you can do.
Also try not to double post.
