I am just about completely over PC's and all their PITA flaws. Why can't the whole world just go MAC and be happy!!!
yeah I'm on a MAC - still use a XP virtual machine. I haven't yet tried to install an OS via the new MAC DM - your first problem is finding a download you can install on the MAC since I've only seen .exe ones

craigw9292,

I think RIM has accepted that it has hit the ceiling on its target group and isn't too concerned with the limitations faced by MAC users with Blackberry phones. Honestly, I don't think it would take much to engineer PC and MAC versions of an OS release. Either that or a program that translates the .exe file in order to push it through the DM. For now the burden has been placed on the user to go PC or miss out.

I could be wrong, but it seems RIM doesnt be appear inclined to take the iPhone on head to head. This would require RIM to bring its A game on full blast. Even though I love my Storm, this half stepping is becoming quite irksome.

I believe many MAC users will be inclined to move into the iPhone once the AT&T exclusive rights contract ends and more carriers pick it up. I'd love to stay with my Storm but I need to see more A game. For now we get a lot of C+ release and upgrade action to get the phone to work as advertised.

ok, let's keep discussion in this thread to that of .167, etc., now opinion and iphone and all else that is not pertinent to this OS release.

Thanks.

Upgraded to .167 with no problem, and have since downgraded back to .151.

As was mentioned earlier, when I would go into Messages and delete messages without opening them, the new message icon (and the number of unread messages) would not go away. I also had an issue with getting a notification that I had a new SMS (and it would show up in the Today feature), but when I'd go into my messages, it wasn't there. I'm guessing there was an issue w/ the combining of SMS with all other messages.

Things seemed to run a tiny bit faster, but since I saw no other benefits, I went back to .151.

Well, I located an East Asia version of the OS .167.

Ran the .exe file and this time it loaded into my PC. For some reason the IUSACELL version didn't work for me.

Ran the apploader and this time it saw the new OS. Took about 15 minutes total to load the new OS.

Before the battery pull, I got two strange emails from RIM from the email address: [email address]
Both discussed a Java log issue. Anyone experience this?

Right away I noticed, for the first time, an noteworthy improvement in speed of phone operations. The new screen transition is very iPhone-esque. I likey!

After the battery pull I got another email from RIM, same addy, detailing the battery pull power down and then power up operations. Appeared to be some log of some sort with regard to memory, speed, etc. Looks like I am getting reports from RIM with regard to operations on my phone specifically. Am I supposed to get these? They aren't bad I guess.

So far I am quite happy with .167

The Storm IS running noticeably faster and with no exaggeration, transitioning faster. Is it my eyes or is the landscape keyboard different?

XelhaBB, you loaded the RIM reporting Quincy tools.

ON your PC > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > find the RIM Tools and remove that application.

Do the same on your BlackBerry at Options > Advanced > Applications.

Well,

gotta ask this question because my fears are confirmed from Crackberry forums.

I've lost audio alerts with .167. No SMS/MMS notification. Phone only vibrates for calls with LOUD selected on Audio menu.

Also, my Email box shows alert icon when its empty. SMS/MMS deletion occasionally locks up the phone requiring a battery pull. SMS/MMS messages still flash on my main screen after they are deleted.

JSanders, thanks for the info regarding the Quincy tools.

I am going to run .167 for a day and see what other issues I encounter.

Is this characteristic with .151 as well? Should I go to .151 or back to .148?

I haven't experienced any of those issues with .151, which has actually been as close to perfect for me as they've come...which is why I am so hesitant to even bother upgrading. If it aint broke, don't fix it, no?

Adorkable,

Definitely stick with .151. OS .167 has some unacceptable flaws. Namely, I would like to hear my phone ring when someone calls or get my SMS/MMS alerts. There is no audio on my phone with .167 installed.

is there any version of .151 out there SOMEWHERE that is NOT from IUSACELL?

I have downloaded two versions from IUSACELL with the same issue. That version will not load in my phone. When I run apploader, the version appears grayed out in the top box of the scroll menu with no + or - next to it. It can neither be selected nor deselected. I still run the apploader and it runs for a second or two and the process ends, because there is no OS to install evidently.

Is there any working version of OS .151 out there NOT from IUSACELL?

I think I got my version from the blackberry.com website, but I could be wrong. If I still have it on my netbook, I might be able to upload it for you somewhere.

Adorkable,

you would be my personal saving angel if you did! Would really appreciate that one.

Went through a bottle and a half of wine last night trying to find a working version of .151. LOL. All I got was late to bed and growled at by my wifey's teacup poodle...LOL

Please do let me know if you can upload it somewhere.

Are you still thinking of trying out 5.0.0.323? I do have .151 on my netbook still, but I'll wait to upload it until after you try .323 just in case you end up liking that one.

.151 is available if you need it.

Just look at the 'previous OS file here' link above.

ADORKABLE!!!

5.0.0.323 - WOWSERS!!!!

I bow humbly and acknowledge your sage advice.

Gotta say .167 was a disappointment but it did have its strong points. 5.0.0.323 is
.167 on da joose!

The new build is simply wonderful. Stable, faster, and transitioning....ZOOM!

Thank you oh wise and all-knowing madam Adorkable!

hey guys, I just update my OS from .148 to .167, i noticed on some of my themes on the home screen, with .148 when i select an icon and remove my finger, i'm still selected on that icon. With .167 when i select an icon on the home screen and left my finger off noting is selected, i have to hold my finger down on an icon then the text indicator will tell me what it is.

Just wonder if that's a new feature with .167?

Thanks
