Default BB Bold 9700 missing WiFi option under Connections

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I have a new BB Bold 9700, which is supposed to support WiFi (at least all Specs and Manuals say so). Yet, there is no WiFi option under Manage Connections (where the Manual says it should be) or anywhere else!

I searched everywhere in the phone. Under Options/About it does say (3G, Wi-Fi) and under Host Routing Table it does have "Wi-Fi [60]". But those are the only two places where I could find any trace of WiFi.

I also searched online, but I couldn't find any info even remotely mentioning this problem. Am I missing something? Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Yes I do. I can browse over the 3G network and I activated BES.

Maybe the IT Policy is blocking it?

I'm not sure how to check that. I initially thought that the provider (Bell) could have the feature blocked/suppressed for obvious reasons. I went back to the Bell store, but they said they don't block WiFi. They connected me with someone in their Handset Support who tried to help me for some time, but he also couldn't figure it out. In the end he thought that the OS needed an upgrade, as Bell's site was showing a slightly newer sub-release than the one in my phone. I downloaded it, but when trying to upgrade with Desktop Manager it said that there aren't newer releases. I'm puzzled...

Did you buy it brand new?

Go ahead and check options > security options > information. What do you see?

Did you ever try a hard reset? (With the power on, remove the battery for at least 30 seconds.)

Your activated on a BES.
Ask the BES admin people if they are blocking wi-fi.

Yes, I got it brand new (it's a company phone, but it did come with everything default). I checked under Sec Options/Information, nothing interesting there: Messages: None; IT Policy Name: Default. Services: Desktop [#######] (AES).

Yes, I've tried a hard reset - no change.

I'll check with our BES admins tomorrow. If I find a solution I'll post it here.

Thx.

There is something interesting there... an IT policy. As asked above, is wifi blocked by policy?

I checked and as some of you guessed, the BES policy is blocking it... Thanks for the tips!

Yeah he's under something really strict.

Isn't AES the DoD level encryption level? Guess they want all internet traffic going through there internal servers only ...period.

Sometime bleeding edges release are recongized by the desktop manager innately. You can however install these updates onto your computer and then boot desktopmanager ...which should then say hey wait ..there's an update and prompt you to install.

If your behind a BES make sure you are updating from a corporate attached computer otherwise you will have to re-marry your blackberry (or rather IT will) and it can be a definite pita to get it done.
