Default BB Storm Very Slow

Please Login to Remove!

When moving in between landscape and portrait views/mode the storm is very slow, sometimes taking around 3-5 seconds to realize the change. This is a new unit and the v is 4.7.0.75. Also why does this always default to landscape even when it's not in that position? Thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I have found that the Storm's accelerometer is very, VERY sensitive and seems to like landscape more than portrait. I am unaware of a way to adjust this part. As far as the slowness, be sure to remove any unwanted apps, clear your browser cache, clear the memory and do a battery pull. For the battery pull I use the quickpull app, works great ;) You can also try to delete any txt messages you may have stored as that too takes up memory.

It most certainly is. Try upgrading:

Thanks all. I am downloading right now from verizon, I'll report back once the update has run. I do manage a BES and we have a total of 4 storm users, should I push from their instead or do the test run on my unit?

seandonnelly,

When I was running .75 I did a couple things that helped with the unit running a tad bit quicker.

1. Enable memory cleaning. (Options > Security Options > Memory Cleaning)
2. Weekly battery pull
3. Clearing the Event Log every couple days

My strongest advice to you is this. Locate and load Beta OS .99 or .103 and you will have a totally new experience with the Storm. Namely no more lockups, faster screen orientation, and fast camera.

It sure did get better. I loved .109. The transition was smooth and more accurate than .76. There were no stuck phases where it wouldnt rotate but it did at each appropriate angle. I cant wait for a Final Release!

I went to BlackBerry® Software Updates and downloaded the software, is this an accurate version? I ran the update the response seems much better all around...but my version still shows the old .75?

seandonnelly,

It appears all you did was reinstall .75.

Your phone runs better because you, in essence, accomplished everything I told you to do. You rebooted, cleared out your event log, and cleaned up the phone memory.

See! I told you it will work!

Now that you know what we are telling you is accurate, try downloading .99 or .103 and it will get even better!

OK, that memory cleaning option is great. Why would that NOT be enabled as standard OS?

Thanks for posting it.

I am a noob Storm owner (but long-time with other BBs).

I was reluctant to get the Storm after seeing how buggy it was at the Verizon store. Horrible laggy units out on display. Stopped by here and saw the feedback on beta OS.

This weekend got the Storm. Immediately jumped to Beta OS .109. and got the quickpull app etc. NO probs to report. Very happy so far (although only had it a short time). I'm using it pretty hardcore mail, music, text, etc. I think a lot of the negativity will be addressed in upcoming OS updates.

I thought everyone was hating on .109 at first- would you guys say it's better than .103? I really don't have many problems with .103 but i get this nasty memory leak from time to time (saw it go from 30mb to 10mb).

I was able to find .109 and loaded it this morning, and things are much better with response time on the Storm now. Thank you to everyone who provided me with some input on ways to improve the Storm experience!

I'm new at this updating thing. I've had my storm a couple months now and it seems slow. I'm still running .75 and want to update to .109 or .114 but I have no clue on how to get it or where to get it. Or anything after that. Can someone help me please?

IMO Read up 1st, dont just download and jump in!!

Before anything Back up everything!!!

What to do IF you mess it up:

BlackBerry 101: How to Reload the Operating System on a Nuked BlackBerry | CrackBerry.com

Specific discussion for .114

Leaked: OS 4.7.0.114 for the BlackBerry Storm 9530 - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

The actual file:

Good luck and just be prepared to mess things up, go in slow and take your time and your probably fine, but there is always that slip chance so just know it up front.

There is a good chance Verizon will frown on the upgrade, DONT CALL THEM FOR TECH SUPPORT on a unofficial OS release. Some have said they will void your warranty.
