Default Water damage months later?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey everybody, hope someone can help me with this. So, I recently got my current Blackberry,a 9630, and sold my previous one, a Curve 8330, to a friend.

Before i sold it to her, I was cleaning the trackball area with some rubbing alcohol, I thought it was 99% but it was only 50%. I had some excess spill into the Curve. I threw it into a bag of rice overnight and all was well the next day. My friend has been using that Curve for several months now with no issues.

Until last night that is. She's experiencing symptoms similar to water damage, mainly the keyboard is non responsive, keys are not doing their assigned function, etc.

She says it hasn't got wet since she had it, so I'm wondering if it's possible for water damage to show up several months afterwards. She got her Curve from me before Christmas, if memory serves.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes. That's sounds typical.

Moisture would remain in the works if the atmosphere she is in is high humidity. Unless this is so or the BB is kept in a carrier or pocket I would imagine it should have dried out by now. It is possible she did not get it wet but had it in a very wet environment like a shower room and it acted up. She did not have to drop it in water to cause the problems. Try the rice in a bag with the battery out to see if this helps.

Thanks for the replies. Like I said, when I got water into it, I threw it into a bag of rice. I forgot to mention I completely tore the Curve down via the helpful videos found here and around the internet. I thought I had it all dried out, but I guess not.

I really thought water damage would show up immediately. Oh well, now she gets a shiny new Blackberry!

Default Yes, we had the same thing happen!

My daughter had a similar situation. She got water on her phone, threw it (whole) into a bag of rice, and it miraculously recovered, only to have the keyboard become "glitchy" over the next few weeks.

I tore down the phone a few times to deal with the glitches, and found 1) small rice kernels inside the casing impeding keyboard contact, and 2) brownish discoloration on the mylar keypad sticker.

Removed the rice and used a Q-tip with some rubbing alcohol to rub the brown residue off the mylar.

After two take-downs, 8330 runs like new.

Good luck!

Funny thing happened last night...the Curve decided that the joke was over and the keyboard starting working again!

We've exchanged messages at random times throughout the day and so far, so good!

Thanks for the help here, hopefully this one is solved.
