As far as I know BlackBerrys only have 2.4 GHz radios for Wi-fi, their was one BlackBerry that worked at wireless A (5 GHz) but it an 8x20 model.

Says so here, per RIM: RIM: BlackBerry - Torch 9800 Slider Phone.

If your router has both modes, maybe it is defaulting to g?

App World does work on a wifi connection if there is a blackberry data plan on the device and the device is connecting to the RIM servers. I do it all the time.

I always thought so too, but when I tried it yesterday it was a no go. BB symbol and wifi only, said no network connection when the radio was off or no signal. Maybe a configuration issue? Don't see any way to change that though.
