Default Holy cow .113 is like a new phone!

Please Login to Remove!

Sorry for a new post but I had to post my excitement. I have been using .75 since I got my phone around 2 months ago and decided to take the plunge to .113 after seeing it may be the official. All I can say is I am glad I did it and will never look back. To the speedier camera, the lightning fast menu options (blackberry button) word editing by moving cursor, 1 second camera click without the annoying white flash and 5 second pause to etc etc etc. The landscape to portrait is lightning quick, etc. Man, this phone is now crazy fast. I was annoyed with my phone because of the lagginess of it but this beta os has really changed my perception.

It's not just a "new" thing either. I can honestly tell a 100% difference in the overall functioning of my phone. If you haven't done the upgrade, I urge you to do so. It's great!

Any reason to not upgrade? I have ver 76 and I love my storm. I have a if its not broken don't fix it attitude and I really don't think my storm is bad or broken. Does everyone feel like the OP?

this is my first post.......i've been reading the site since i go tmy storm a week ago. i'm reaosnably capable of doing computer related things......just not sure i want to tinker with the OS on the phone...especially if the official is gonna be out soon. is it worth it though? i'm not terribly upset about the phone's performance with the .75 OS. yeah it's a bit slow.....just wondering is the .113 OS really that much better? that i should go through the process of updating now instead of just waiting till VZW releases whatever they're gonna release?

If Verizon does release the .113 as the official OS it will be the same as the .113 that is out right now, so there won't be anything more official about that one. I say upgrade (after a backup, of course).

Ok, to help calm you fears guys, I will answer your questions. I too was afraid of upgrading to beta OS's. That is why I waited so long going from .75 to the .113 im at now. I figured I'd wait and wait and wait until verizon came out with the official. Now that its close to the offical (rumor going around everywhere) I figured I had nothing to lose.

The thing is, I loved my Storm even at .75 but between the laggy responses from switching to landscape from portrait and etc, video recorder crashing, menus being really laggy when switching between options and etc I was to the point where I knew it couldn't get any worse. I have absolutely no regrets from upgrading. I have now upgraded 2 of my friends OS's to the same version and they see the exact improvement. Backup your stuff beforehand. I lost nothing, no apps, no nothing. Give it a go! It truly made my phone feel brand new. The speed is incredible.

Is it an update for verizon only? I'm with Bell Canada, does Bell release os updates too or should I upgrade to this 113?

I'm not sure on that. All I know is that it works for verizon. That's where I'm on. Maybe someone else can help on that question.

I think that someone going from .75 to .113 could really see some changes but for us that have gone from beta to beta would still be able to poke out those few bugs or still problems each beta has dragged. Kinda wish I could appreciate .113 like they do....

I'll have to agree with Elusive here. I've had .75 since I got the Storm in November. I figured I'd wait until the next official release... and since it's most likely going to be .113, and the leaked .113 won't be any different than the VZW official .113 release... there's really no reason not to just update it to the leaked version now.

WOW what a difference. Moving within menu's is fast. Opening and closing apps is FAST. Portrait to Landscape is much faster. Vibrate mode is actually vibrate mode (mine would still make sounds when calls or emails/texts came in with OS .75)... I'm still playing around with everything... but my overall impression is that everything is FASTER... and less buggy than .75.

LOVE it.

I'm not sure. I hope some of the more knowledgeable people on here will come along to tell you.

However... from my experience with the VZW techs in the corporate stores... I doubt they'll even glance at which OS you're running. If you walk in... say "I have no idea what happened! I was using it... and it just crashed on me and now it doesn't work." They'll look at it... try to turn it on... if it won't work for them they'll simply say "okay, we'll give you a new one under the 1 year manufacturer warranty".

I really wouldn't worry about it.

You can always downgrade before returning your phone if necessary. Just make sure you do a back up before installing any new OS.

jdmevo8. Download the .113 from the link a couple posts up. Open up desktop manager after running the exe and follow the instructions. It will let you know there is an upgraded version.

As far as voiding your warranty, I have heard both but I call bs on voiding. Worst case scenario, just downgrade your phone back to .75 and then give it to Verizon. I've done 3 storms (mine included) today with 0 problems. If even worse happens and your phone gets nuked, crackberry has instructions on how to fix it. .113 is amazing, go for it!
