Default Preventing users from installing software

Please Login to Remove!

Hey,

Ok. So far I have spent many hours of my life reading through the policy reference guide and creating a policy before deployment!

I am stuck at one bit. I am trying to completely prevent users from installing third party software on their devices (all 8900's) except for things I deploy centrally. I had set the following:

Allow Application Download Services - False
Disable Blackberry Application Center - True
Disable Carrier Directory - True.

But then I came across "Application control center policy rules" in the policy reference book which is more what I am looking for as I would like to allow things like Google Maps but I cant figure out where to configure them.

So I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of where to set those up? And also can someone tell me exactly what "Application Download Services", "Blackberry Application Center" and "Carrier Directory" are as I am now wondering if I have disabled the wrong things. The policy descriptions leave a lot to be desired!...

Cheers,

Yea thats what I was looking for. Thanks It has worked as I was expecting.

The only thing is that their are some apps which I would like to deploy centrally is possible?

(I will post an image on next post) Notice I have left "Application Software" to disallowed which removed everything and stopped them from installing. But then Google Maps is set to optional which seems to me from reading that documentation that it would push it to the phone. It doesnt.

I also tried required which didnt work. So I thought I would try and re-download it from the phone as I thought it might not push it but allow it to be installed. That doesnt seem to work either and still says its blocked.

Any ideas?

I have tried so many things and read through so much documentation and I cannot figure it out....

I wish the RIM documentation was better!!...

- Set Google Maps to Required
- Assign Software Configuration to a user
- Either right-click on the user and select Deploy Applications or wait 4 hours for the next scheduled push
