Bluetooth Sync with 7100i

I have just found more information on this process. Contrary to what some have said (and unfortunately I have repeated), you do not need to be on a BES to have access to wireless sync using BT and Desktop Manager. Here is what is required:
--Desktop Manager v4.1 or later
--Widnows XP with Service Pack 2
--compatible BT adapter for PC (compatible with XP SP2 that is)
--Blackberry handheld with v4.1 or later, with Firewall disabled

Desktop Manager v4.1 is available from RIM, if you haven’t already you will need to donwload it. Visit your providers site and then follow links to download the latest software for your device—both handheld and desktop should be available from that same site.

Now, you can’t just use a random USB BT adapter, you have to choose one from Microsoft’s list of “approved” adapters that have built in drivers within SP2. So, the list is available in article ID 841803 of Microsofts Help and Support site, at http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;841803 . Here is the list of adapters that is supported:

To connect your device to your PC using USB, you will need to disable your firewall on the handheld, as this will block/close your connection quite quickly (from my own experience at least). Once you have a supported USB BT adapter installed, you need to enable Desktop Manager to detect a bt setting. To do this, go to your PC’s start menu, then to Programs, Blackberry, and select Blackberry Device Manager. Once this is open (usually in your start up tray in the lower left), right click on it and choose Properties. You need to check the box next to “Endable Bluetooth”, and then click on the Configure button. From here, click on Add and select your device from the list. Now, go to the Connection Settings of your Desktop Manager application and click the “Detect” button to force Desktop Manager to look for your device. You can also choose to check the box allowing you to use both USB and BT connections to your PC that is in the Connection Settings window.

Yes, that was a response given in the "7100i review thread", on the second page. It was also posted in response, by the same user, on blackberrycool's site when they originally posted the article with info saying it would be supported.... and I mistakenly repeated it, once, not being able to find more information about it until now (even though I was just looking in the wrong places, DOH).

Help please -

My computer and BB meets all of the requirements but when I open the BB Device Manager I cannot check the box "Enable Bluetooth Support" because it is grayed out? I read all of the steps in the read me file and help on the BB devivce manager and everything seems to be in place. Anyone have any suggestions?

ACM--is your bluetooth adapter on the list approved by Microsoft? If you had to install drivers, its not "approved"....this is what happened to me using a Kensington USB adapter.....

On the BlackBerry device, the Bluetooth Options screen must display Desktop Connectivity and Wireless Bypass in the Services list. If it doesn't then BT Sync will not work.

As mentioned before, this is included with BES 4.0 SP3. I am not real hip on BIS, so I have no idea what would need to get pushed to the handheld in order to enable this feature. I do know that it is not enabled by default in device OS 4.1 for the 7100i.

Here's the problem that I had and I'm trying to fix it now.

Right out of the box my 7100i had 4 Bluetooth services: "Headset", "Handsfree", "Desktop Connectivity" and "Wireless Bypass". As soon as I hot sync'd with BES, "Desktop Connectivity" and "Wireless Bypass" went away. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to get those back.

My question to jibi earlier was can I completly get rid of the BES "Desktop" profile and it's service books, do a fresh install of the 4.1 O.S., and get all of those Bluetooth services back? Wouldn't it be like fresh out the box again?

assuming that it is policy that disabled those due to not recognizing them, a reinstallation will not remove the policy from the handheld.

...but thats a rather unknown assumption, as well.

Is there a way to put the 7100i back to its out of the box status? (I so wish I had backed it up right out of the box before doing anything to it.)

I believe if you wipe the handheld and then goto the nextel/sprint website

It will not remove the IT policy already applied by your BES Server. Same scenerio as with Handheld Security.

I sooooooo regret doing that hot sync at work with BES. So that IT policy is stuck on the BlackBerry for life then? Keep in mind, I'm not going to hot sync it with BES EVER again after this. So the wipe wouldn't give me the fresh factory install with all BT services again? I actually have the 4.1 OS downloaded directly from BlackBerry and not Sprint/Nextel.

I'm just asking this as to make sure that we're on the same page. I don't have to be on BES, I just choose to be. At this point I want to wipe it clean and then "choose" to not use BES. I'd much rather have my BT services.

If you're not using "Bluetooth Devices" in your Control Panels with the lil' Bluetooth icon in the tray of Windows than you're NOT on the right track. I got mine to work by reading those two links. You can't use "My Bluetooth Places". You can't use "Bluetooth Configuration". ONLY "Bluetooth Devices".

I just made my BB discoverable and opened up BB device manager Properties, Device Connection, check the Enable bluetooth support and then hit configure bluetooth. Note be sure you have the newest drivers for your truemobile dell adapter, i also have a dell laptop but they have some wierd problems with there truemobile stuff
