I just took over the support of this BES server, and I see a serviced called Bloomberg Blackberry Gateway Service. I know users in this company use the Bloomberg application on the Blackberry device, and I'm guessing that this gateway service is for the Bloomberg application, right? Is it like a plug-in or add-on for BES? I'm planning to do an upgrade from 4.1.2.25 to SP6+MR1. I'm wondering if there is anything that I need to do for this gateway service during the upgrade.

We're running SP6 MR1 with the Bloomberg gateway service, no issues.

Thanks a lot. I'm not too familiar with the Bloomberg gateway service. Is this like a plug-in or add-on on the BES? What does it do? I just know it's for the Bloomberg application on the BB device.

The gateway is a service that filters through MDS to allow Bloomberg client to connect to Bloomberg. Your company likely has setup a secure tunnel IP - IP for this.

Note Bloomberg is no longer deploying the gateway and all new installations are using a gateway free method. Personally I think the gateway has some benefits.

When upgrading to the latest SP, do I choose

"Blackberry Enterprise Server and components" OR
"Blackberry Enterprise Server with MDS IntegratioN Service and components"

Since I have Bloomberg gateway service, I'm not sure which option I should check during the upgrade. I was told that my BES doesn't have any MDS because under the webaddress, the application installed, application registry, device registered and monitor messages folder is empty. :(
