To use any BB related application, App World, email, BBM, etc., you MUST have a BB data plan.

Please use our SEARCH feature and our FAQ to find the answer to your question. this has been covered over and over again and the answer is still the same.

This link should get you started: WiFi on BlackBerrys- General Questions - BlackBerryFAQ

Without a data plan, you may still be able to browse the web and download apps via wifi. However many apps available require a BlackBerry data plan (although some can work on a generic data plan).

I don't have a data plan yet for my 8520, but I am interested in getting on the internet through wifi. I connected to a wifi network and was able to get on the internet but I'm worried that it is grabbing it from the ATT network and the internet charges will show up on the bill. How do I make sure that it is using wifi only?

Wirelessly posted (The Dacia Sandero of data plan)

Since you don't have a data plan you shouldn't be able to get internet, which means if you're getting it through wifi, it's not grabbing from AT&T. However, if you want to play it safe, you can always turn off the "Mobile Network" and just keep wifi on.

This is what I did... Manage Connections<Mobile Network Options<Turned Data Services to "off". I still receive text messages and all that good stuff. That should just turn off internet and such right?

Web search for this exact phrase:

How-to-Connect-to-Internet-with-Your-BlackBerry-without-Paying-For-Data-Plan

Apparently it works for some people. I can't get it to work for me.
I'd give a direct link but this forum won't let me yet

But you still can't connect to the BB services. You need the service books and the only way to get them is have a BB dataplan.
