does anyone know if there will ever be an update for the 7100 models that will allow you to assign ringtones to specific people in your address? or maybe its already available and i just dont know it...

That would be nice. I wish someone would mike ringtone that sounds like the AOL voice to say names. "John" "Mary" "Bill".

About the best you can do right now is create a filter so that messages from certain people come in as level 1 messages, to differentiate them from "other" messages received.

When your carrier releases v4.1 for your BB, you will have customizable ringtones. No one knows when that will occur (anticipating the next question).

You can already do this by using profiles and exceptions

nah the best u can do is create a new profile, then use exceptions and select a name from your address boot to use as the "exception" and assign a different profile to that person. hope that makes sense

OK, I am being stupid but can you walk me through this please?

I figured out how to create a profile. That's as far as I got. Do I need to create one for each person I want to assign a ring tone? I am not comprehending what you mean by creating an exception. Do I do this form the profile or the address book. I could not seem to find where this was. Thanks!

If you have a 7100 that is NOT followed by the letter "i", you can not set up customizable ringtones.
Only devices with 4.1 (7100i; 8700; 7130e) can do this today.
