Default Bricked 2 8707s in 2 days trying to switch from an 8800!

A word of warning:
If you test out an 8800 and decide to revert to an earlier model (ie 8707) using the Switch Device wizard then you may well brick the device you are switching to!

In the past two days I bricked two 8707s trying to go back after testing the 8800 (I definately prefer the keyboard on the 8700 and 8707) - The Switch Device Wizard in Desktop Manager (I used 4.2.1.6) backs up the 8800, asks you to switch to the new (in my case old) device - I plugged in the 8707 and clicked next, at which point it loaded some Java stuff, went to reset the 8707 but the device would not reboot properly, I just ended up with a white screen with the word "Abor..." and below that the word "Reset". Clicking the wheel or hitting enter reset the device, but it just went back to the same screen.

I have reported it to Vodafone, but they seemed pretty unconcerned, and suggested that the problem was the Desktop Manager software that was intended for use with the 8800 (Yeah right - how do you expect DM to communicate with a BB that came out AFTER the DM software did ???)

Their loss, I got two free replacements in two days :P

A couple things I would suggest....I would use Desktop Manager 4.2.1.8. I don't know if that contributed but it would be best to use the latest version. Second, most likely the phone wasn't "bricked." You can use JL_Cmder in my signature to wipe the BB and then plug into desktop Manager again and reload the OS (provided you have the OS installed on your PC.)
