Default Issue deploying wireless device software upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I'm a bit stuck here:

Trying to push out wireless software upgrades for my users.

As an example, I've created a device software configuration for my 9700 and then created a new software config and added this to it.

On the BlackBerry device software bundles tab, the deployment is set to wired and I have no way to change this to wireless.

When I go to Manage BlackBerry Device Software bundles, all of the software I've installed for my devices shows as wired too. What am I doing wrong here?

Also, can anyone tell me how to distinguish between platform, partial and complete upgrades and how you go about configuring/sending that to users? I've trawled though the admin documentation but it is really poor with regards to this!

Thanks for your assistance

Default Re: Issue deploying wireless device software upgrade

You can't directly push a device software update wirelessly to a handheld.
Device Software Updates come directly from the carrier. Using BES, you can control which software updates you wish to support or not support... but you can't arbitrarily choose any version you wish and push it to a handheld.

The carrier needs to first approve the update, then the device model and currently loaded device OS must match what the carrier has approved.

Default Re: Issue deploying wireless device software upgrade

I wasn't aware that you can't push out a wireless upgrade from the BAS.

I do know that you can't push out just any software as it needs to be supported etc. All the software on my BES is carrier certified and downloaded from the RIM site.

RIM's documentation is so badly worded I wonder sometimes.

Anyway, just spoke with RIM support - the way to go is to use WDM or create a share on a machine where the users can use apploader on their desktops to update their device o/s
