Default 8220 Application Err #523 RESET

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone experienced this with their 8220s?

I was playing the WordMole game yesterday and all the sudden the game froze on me. Then next i got a white screen with this message in the middle of the screen: Appl Err #523 RESET

Obivously the game i was currently playing was reset. However, my high score still there so it was not so bad

I thought it just gonna be a one time thing and maybe I have so many things open but then when I played it again later in the day I have that same issue again.

Is this serious? I only have the phone for 5 days now!

Thanks,
ilr

App error 523 means that a system process has died, and the only way to fix it is to wipe the OS and reinstall it.

Since you are within 14 days of purchase you can go exchange it, or you can fix the DIY way.

To do it, you need to get javaloader. IF you search the forum you will find it. One member here has a link in their sig for an app call jl_commander which is a convenient UI for javaloader. You will also need to latest version of the OS for the flip.

I don't have exact instructions in front of me for javaloader or jl_commander, but here is the jist of what you need to do.

1)BACKUP YOUR BLACKBERRY!!! You are going to obliterate every bit of data on there. Also backup your memory cards contents if you have device encryption enabled.

2)Use javaloader or JL_Commander to wipe your black berry. Instructions for this are on this forum somewhere.

3)Install the new OS following the instructions in the sticky at the top of this forum (or click this link for it). Be sure you do delete the vendor.xml file.

4)Restore your data from the backup.

5)Rejoice that you only spent an hour fixing your BB instead of wasting gas to go back to the store, or to the service center.

Wirelessly posted (by Milton and his stapler.)

I had that same error on my 8100 after I updated to the newest myspace application, deleted the application and it seems to be ok. I'm not sure if it actually had anything to do with it but it seems to be ok.

I did a little more digging and it turns out that Error 523 is caused by one application, and deleting the offending app and reinstalling it may help resolve the error. My experience though, resulted in me nuking the OS and starting from scratch.

The one application is the one you experience the problem in. To delete it, do this from the home screen.

-BB Logo Key
-Select the Settings folder with the Green Gear icon
-Select Options with the wrench icon
-Select Advanced options.
-Select Applications.
-Highlight the offending application.
-Press the BB Logo key
-Select Delete from the menu.
-Select Delete in the pop up box.
-Pull your battery and reset if necasary.
-Reinstall the application by getting a fresh copy from the application vendor.

I'm working on a bit of a howto to do a backup, wipe and restore operation, but I need to work out some kinks in the process.

Since then I have re-installed the myspace application and all is well. I wasnt sure if that was it but at that time it was the only thing that I updated.

If the error hasn't returned then it sounds like you tracked it down and surgically removed the bug. So carry on and myspace away.

Depends on the application. If it is something that was not installed on the BB from the factory, then you definitly may have to pay. But if you bought the app already then more than likely you can download it again.

If you open the blackberry homepage from the bookmarks on your BB. All those apps that are listed there are free.

If you are worried about losing WordMole, don't as I think it's a free download and it's included in the BB OS package.
