Default "data connection refused" gprs

Please Login to Remove!

I've read all the threads on "data connection refused," with the lowercase gprs and none seem to help with the 8800 model.

I landed in Europe today and my phone/email/PIN/sms worked perfectly until an hour ago when "data connection refused" replaced "vodofone" at the top, and the GSM became gprs (lower case) and no data is no longer received.

The other threads suggested going "into the options screen. Click on network and select manual. It will then ask to find networks to choose from and say yes. Then select the other wireless network option. This will make your phone seek out networks first then if none are available it will jump onto another network."

However, I cannot find that feature on the 8800.

Please help!

Thank you!

Have you tried a hard reboot (pulling the battery)? Have you tried cleaning your SIM card?

Have you tried to manually select a network other than Vodafone?

Go to Options > Mobile Network. Also make sure that data services are on.

My next suggestion would be to call Cingular if none of the above works.

data connection refused indicates no BB data plan. Where in Europe are you? Maybe there is no BB service where you are?

Normally yes, but Vodafone has BB service on all of their networks, so that shouldn't be an issue. Also, the carrier providing the roaming service is not required to actually offer BB service, just GPRS/EDGE/UMTS roaming. Q-Tel in Qatar would be a good example. They don't sell BB service, but BB's work there because they have GPRS roaming.

Absolutely correct, however, if your home network doesnt have a GPRS roaming agreement with the host network then you will not get any service.

To check, either get in touch with your home network and ask them for their preferred partners, or jump onto GSM World - the website of the GSM Association and search for your networks roaming partners.

To manually change networks--
options,
Mobile network,
switch from automatic to manual,
find a compatible network and connect

Good luck

True, but both Cingular and T-Mobile have roaming agreements with Vodafone throughout Europe and Asia.

Are you using a new SIM card or did you re-use the one you already had?

Older SIM cards have trouble negotiating with the multiple networks overseas, especially in Europe, and your BB may work not consistently.

A new SIM card has resolved a number of these kinds of problems for our users who work on both sides of the pond.
