Default "Blue" Cingular and PocketDay

Please Login to Remove!

I spent about 20 mins on the phone with a BB support tech at Cingular yesterday. I've been a user of PocketDay in the past, but I've had nothing but trouble trying to get it to work with my current work BB account, which is Cingular Blue.

The tech told me I simply don't have access to the wap servers - that currently only cingular orange customer have access, and that blue may get access in the future at some point.

Does this made sense? Has anyone here with Cingular Blue service gotten PocketDay to work?

Damager,

See if you have a service book called IPPP for BIBS. If you do, disable wap in pocketday and set the internet connection to BIS. Also, if your firewall is disabled you may be able to get Direct to work by putting an APN into the BB TCP settings screen.

No, it doesn't make sense. Try "proxy" in the APN.

Default Ok...

I did the following:

1. I DO have a service book for IPPP for BIBS.
2. I disabled WAP in pocketday and set the internet connection to BIS.
3. I cannot change the firewall setting - seems to be set to "Enable" and doesn't allow any other setting.
4. Set the carrier in Pocketday to ATT Wireless and set the APN to proxy.

I get the following message: "The application pocketday has attempted to open a connection to a location inside the firewall and outside the firewall which is not allowed by your IT policy."

On the "weather" section in Pocketday I see the following line: "java.io.IOException: Permission denied"

Ok, you're a corporate BB user. You didn't mention that. You need the WAP only version of PocketDay. Delete the current version (you must do this first). Then install:

http://www.crossriversystems.com/files/v40/pdp-wap.jad

Select AT&T from the pocketday communications screen and you should be ok. Weather probably won't work as the AT&T apn is so old it eats characters. I would get off Blue and get onto Orange. Then you can just switch comm settings to Cingular.

Default So far, so good

OK - I did all that and everything is working great EXCEPT weather, which you mentioned. I guess I don't understand how something like an RSS feed or stock prices can work perfectly, but the weather feed is screwed up. Can you help me understand this?

The weather uses a specific URL and the AT&T APN seems to not like the way it's formatted. It's the only thing that doesnt' work and we've never been able to work around it. As I mentioned, cingular is no longer supporting this and it's just there for backward compatibility until they get all their customers onto Orange.
