Default My Mac won't charge my BlackBerry

Is the BlackBerry designed to be charged via the USB cable when plugged into a computer? I've seen other devices like this and assumed that is the case. I have a 7290 and it doesn't charge unless plugged into the charging adapter itself.

Any advice for working around this issue? Can't get much from the forum search -- I might not be searching for the right terms.

Mac users, please help me out.

You need the PocketMac Blackberry program. It's drivers allow the mac to recognize and charge the BB

PocketMac works great! Does everything I need.

And yes you need a BB program of some sort on the PC (windoze also) for the BB to charge through the computer.

Maybe we should ask RIM to change that?

As Finch says.....great program.

Not sure if any of you guys noticed, but on the front page/right side of blackberry.com they reference "Use Blackberry with your Mac". The link takes you to news about PocketMac's solution.

I really hope they help PocketMac out to offer more options such as allowing us Mac users to load programs, etc.

An interesting note though. I'm using pocketmac to sync with my 7100t and it charges when connected. However, when I'm away from the computer and it goes to sleep, after a while a message pops up on the blackberry telling me that the connected computer does not have enough power to charge the BB. The Mac must be shutting off power (or throttling it down) when its asleep.

Apple has admitted that there are some issues with certain USB ports on the mac. They discovered this when people couldn't charge their iPod shuffles.

I can only assume that this is the same problem that prevents the Blackberry from being able to charge all the time...
