Default AT&T Won't Unlock Bold

Please Login to Remove!

Anyone else have issues with AT&T not unlocking Blackberry Bolds? I've been in contact with them a few times and they said it wasn't possible with my phone. And I have been unable to get a decent answer from them.

If it matters, I got the phone on a 2-year commitment plan a day or two after it was released in November 2008.

They're not obligated to provide the code, and in my experience most of their customer service reps won't know what you're talking about when you ask.

Keep calling them until you get someone who can help you.

Or buy a code from an unlocking service.

The two people I spoke to and the third I chatted with understood what I wanted. They asked me for IMEI number and then responded that my phone is unlockable. Pretty frustrating... Maybe they're pissed that I bought a new phone under 2-year commitment, before the Bold commitment was over.

You must have an acct in good standing with att if after a new activation or upgrade generally the require you to wait anywhere from 30- 90 days before providing unlock code!

Also on occaision unlock codes for one reason or another are not available. No real reaso why just not I've had conversations with several unlockers and they all say this is very rare but does occur

AT&T is telling me that Bold is not unlockable in California. BS in my opinion.

I was able to unlock brand new Pearl 3G handsets a day after I received them.

If At&t wont unlock you can go for the online unlocking services like wickedunlock.com which provide good service. Instead of waiting for the provider you can go for cheap services like this.

wow that is indeed BS.

I'm in canada, and i have purchased many ATT & Tmo BB's from the USA. Each time i call and tell them i want the code instead of paying for it.

They always do!

It is not uncommon for carriers to not provide you with an unlock code whilst you are still within your minimum contract length. It is unusual why ATT would still appear reluctant to provide you with one after two years.

I had mine unlocked by AT&T two weeks after I bought it. I told them I was going overseas, asked them if they'd unlock it and presto! Keep calling until you get someone who helps. I have to do that with my cable company. ;)
