Default Battery Life

Please Login to Remove!

Hiya,

Now I don't mean when switched on and running, I mean when switched off and left.

We have a dozen handsets (all 9000 Bolds) and some users leave them off for 4 or 5 days at a time, after which they have to be recharged before being used again.

And this is when they're properly switched off as well.

We have even had a brand new one delivered, which has the same problem, so wondering if it's a security thing?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Any ideas about what?

Letting the battery run completely down can actually harm a Lithium battery.

Ideas about why the battery is running down at all, when the phone is switched off. For example;

User uses phone for 1 day while they are on business. Battery life ~90%
User turns the phone off completely (I mean actually press and hold the power button to shut it down)
So many weeks pass when they need it again, so assume that as they turned it off with 90% battery they should be able to just power it back on
Realise this doesn't work so need to charge it

Batteries naturally lose charge over long periods.

Any idea what would be happening if a battery chages for more than 6 hrs to be full. When in the fon ot is drained fast and hardly lasts for 5hrs. Fon gets hot you can feel it on the screen or sometimes switches off on its own

Is this a new battery or the one that came with it? If is the original, try a new OEM one.

I don't mean to hijack a thread, but I'm with Idoodle, here. I have a new OEM battery for bold 9000 and have a battery charger for it; it won't work in the phone no matter what; I've charged let it drain and when I put it in the bold, it gives me the lightning bolt through a battery on a white screen. My original battery won't hold a charge more than three hours now, what gives with these things?

Hijacking a thread is considered bad forum manners.

Holding the power button to turn off the BlackBerry does not fully turn off power, at least not on the models I've used and the model I use now. I'm not even sure using the "Turn Power Off" icon will completely shut off all circuits from the battery.

My advice if the blackberry is going to be left for weeks is remove the battery; and if for days, put the handset in a charging cradle.

The duration of the battery before it needs recharging depends on numerous factors. See Maximum Battery Life - BlackBerryFAQ and note that how you use the battery can be a significant factor. The age of the battery is a factor, signal strength, your useage patterns, on and on.

About applications, if you haven't done so already, check and find any third-party applications that are set to run in the background when closed. Fully exit all applications when not being used.

And when you buy replacement batteries, buy either genuine BlackBerry batteries or well-regarded aftermarket extended life batteries and not the cheapest battery you can find. That doesn't mean you need to pay full retail, either.

I have a problem with my battery too (9000 model). Four times now in the past two weeks my phone just shuts off when there are at least one or two full bars of battery life left. When I turn the phone back on, there is absolutely no battery at all (battery icon is red) and I have to charge it. So my phone does not properly indicate that I am low on battery, it just turns off.

Is this a problem exclusive to the 9000 model or is this the natural behavior of batteries? I find it a bit ridiculous that my aunt who has a 9700 model can have a similar usage pattern as I do, yet her's lasts two days. That is unheard of to me. It may have something to do with the fact that I charge my phone overnight every night, plugged in for at least 7 hours.

You charging it every night isn't the problem.

Take a look at the contacts on the battery and on the device and make sure they are clean and not corroded.

And try a new battery, or borrow one, and see if same thing happens or not.

I had a iphone 3Gs And I phone 4, And I Thought The Battery Life Was Really Good On The Iphone, And I Kept Using It Quite A Lot To Download Apps On It, And By The Time I Was Finished The Battery Had Almost Dided, And I Had To Always Keep Charrging It Nealy Everyday! I Went And Bought A New Blackberry Storm And The Battery Life Seems Quite Good But It Does Need The Charge Now And Again.
