Default Windows 7 Blackberry Problems

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all. I didn't see a thread for this, so I thought I'd start one. I updated to Windows 7 a few days ago, and so far I love it. Very few problems have arisen that I haven't been able to solve. Until today. I downloaded the newest official OS for my 8310. I went to install it, and it was a no go. Even after running the compatibility wizard. On searching for it, I noticed another forum stating "DON'T UPGRADE YOUR BLACKBERRY WITH WINDOWS 7!!" They say it bricks your phone. But that was the end of the discussion. No work arounds, and no 'real' success stories. Anybody else in the same boat?

yeah for some reason, the BB and windows 7 dont get along very well... i tried upgrading my 8900 with 7 and it crashed it completely... took me 3 hours to get my BB back up again... your best bet is find a way to dual boot with vista/xp and 7.... thats what i did with my laptopn(the computer i run all my BB stuff on) where i have vista and 7... so whenever i need to upgrade the OS i restart my laptop and choose vista... doing it that way i have no issues...

thats about all i can suggest... until rim comes up with an answer to the issue

Wirelessly posted

If I get a spare monitor for my other PC I just might try Windows 7, but its still a beta and will be a far cry from the final product it probably won't be worth it. (As longhorn was to Vista)

There is a thread in the RIM Software RIM concerning Windows 7, you might want to check that out.

That's what I'm afraid of Cory. But I appreciate the reply. I like to try to run only one OS at a time. I know a lot of other people multiple boot, but I'm a one OS type of guy. I'm hoping someone comes up with a workaround. Otherwise, I'll just install all the necessities on my old XP lappie. No offense to RIM, but everyone knows how long it takes them to come up with fixes for anything! God forbid I have to go without upgrading/updating my phone!

EDIT: Thanks for pointing that out Steve. You really should give it a shot. If I understand M$'s testing strategy, this version isn't incredibly different than the final version. And chances are, that much like WLM, they will just update it to the final version when the time comes. They've really outdone themselves this time around!

MaddestMax, you're playing with BETA software. Features can be dropped ar added. It's the RC releases that are close to the final product. I'm sure RIM is working on a Win7 compatible DM, but I would not expect to see anything out of Waterloo until at least RC2 or RC3.

Even Microsoft is recommending running Windows 7 as dual boot. A beta OS should not/cannot be relied upon. Apparently there are a lot of software that won't run on Windows 7 at present.

Lol! Thanks guys, for the info. I've been beta testing for years. Normally I would agree with you, regarding dual-booting, but I'm not that worried about it. Microsoft has to suggest that. Keeps them in the clear. From what I understand from insiders (and this article), we may be seeing a full release by June. That's in the pretty near future. And like I said earlier, I imagine they will continue to update it, all the way through. I do appreciate your advice though.

And I realize that I'm being slightly naive by believing any of this, but I have a good feeling!

So Microsoft themselves recommend dual-booting, I find that kind of funny since Vista doesn't really support dual-booting (its kind of hit and miss) and Microsoft wanted everyone to go to virtualization over dual-booting.

I have just finished setting up dual-boot config on my Asus laptop. It camed pre-installed with Vista 32-bit and I installed Windows 7 32-bit just about 1 hr ago. I am posting this from Windows 7 running Google Chrome browser. It works flawlessly. I can boot into Vista or W7 without any trouble.

I am now currently installing the desktop software that originally came with my Pearl 8130, Desktop version 4.3 along with the Roxio Media Manager. If it installs correctly, I will try and update the software to the latest desktop version and will report back.

Please do google. I don't have the guts to do it myself.

And SteveO, I've long wondered if Vista only had a difficult time dual booting non-M$ operating systems. Cheating buggers. They don't like competition.

well its me once again. at this moment im using the internet through alltel dial-up networking using a bluetooth connection in winders 7. setup was super easy and super fast. worked right away. so........yes, the whole thing seems fine. i might add this is an asus f8sp-x1 laptop. using pearl 8130.

i also was able to connect to desktop manager 4.7 and conduct a backup of my pearls contents using a bluetooth connection. took a bit longer due to slower transfer of bluetooth vs. usb but it worked fine.

google, glad to see you have everything up and running. I too have had no problems with backing up my BB. What I've heard is not working, is trying to upgrade your phones OS under Windows 7. Has anyone pulled that off?

DM 4.7 loads into Windows 7 OK, but it will not talk to my 7130g, the battery charging indicator doesn't come on, and I have to unplug the usb cable when switching the pc off or it just hangs when shutting down. I'm dual booting so I just go back to vista for the normal BB functions, apart from this Windows 7 looks good.

Default os upgrade windows 7

I upgraded my bb storm to 4.7.0.90 with Windows 7. You can't use desktop manger to do it so i used the loader file instead. And my Storm runs like a charm. I think windows 7 is an amazing OS considering its a beta. I have been running it for 2 months now and have had so software incompatability issues. Honestly it doesn't even seem like a beta.
