I have got my blutooth working with the window xp stack but the desktop manager,
The bluetooth option is still grey out when i go in to properties in the desktop manager in task bar has anyone got any suggestions as this is driving me mad i have been working at it for two days, I love my pearl and can't do without it the icing on the cake would be to get the bluetooth to sync, so can anyone help me please !!!!

Are you saying that in Desktop Manager, that all of the Bluetooth settings are disabled in Options -> Connection Settings? If so, you may need to completely uninstall Desktop Manager and re-install it.

Yea I have tried that it's no better, the problem is I thought I was using ms stack because I could see the Bluetooth in the control panel working but it's using the widcom drivers still even when I modify the bth.inf file it still can't use the ms stack drivers for some reason what I get in device manager is %BluetoothClassName% then the Bluetooth adaptor under it with a yellow mark beside it and no driver loaded, Is it possible that the ms stack driver is damaged and can't load if so can anyone send me a copy of it C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers the file is called bthusb other than that I haven't got a clue whets wrong the Bluetooth adaptor I am using is a Belkin and I have added it to the inf /bth.inf file with the hardware id, any help out there as I am slowly going mad I am use to using Linux and not windows but as my company has supplied me with a laptop with XP on it I have no choice only to use it, So all help is greatly needed

Uninstall the Widcomm drivers completely. It has been reported here that Desktop Manager does not work with the Widcomm BT stack.

How and why to uninstall these drivers?

I uninstalled the desktop manager completely and installed the newer version 17b, but the same blutooth problem. The options are greyed out.

Another thing: As soon as I turn off & on the bluetooth on my Thinkpad T40p, using Fn+F5 key, it says a new hardware found - motorolla USB modem - looking for driver! Wonder if there is a conflict from some old stuff. Inrrespective BB desktop should not have the bluetooth greyed out.

Has anyone been able to connect their pearl via bluetooth to their windows machines?

yea already removed the the widcom drivers I just cant get it to install using the MS Stack drivers for some reason this is the second device Ixxx8217;m have this problem with I just cant get any device to load with the MS Stack for some reason any Microsoft geniuses out there that can tell me were Ixxx8217;m going wrong and walk me though it

Probably not a MS OS problem. The RIM guys didn't test the desktop manager on Windows properly.

I am searching RIM database for a solution. If I can't find one I will send them an email for help.

Has anyone seen the Desktop Manager's -> Options ->Connection settings -> Bluetooth Settings -> Configure Bluetooth not greyed out?

Mine is not greyed out.

My issue is that the MS Stack recognizes the Pearl through the BT Icon in the Control Panel, but when I go Configure Bluetooth and then Add to connect through Desktop Manager I get the same error that a lot get:

Desktop Manager is unable to locate any Bluetooth devices that support desktop services.

This will allow you to find the inf directory in windows. c:/windows/inf

From there locate your bth.inf file.

First off copy this file to the same directory and change the name to bth_old.inf so we have a backup.

Now here is where we're going to trick the XP BT stack into thinking it supports your BT dongle.

Unplug the dongle and plug it back in, when it tries to update the driver, cancel it. Go into the device manager [right click on my computer and choose properties / hardware / device manager] You should see your BT dongle on the list with a yellow ! next to it. Right click on it and select properties. Then details. Now you should see a screen that has a drop down box with the words "device instance id" change that to the next one down in the drop down box labled "hardware ids" and copy down on paper exactly what it has listed there.

Now we're going to edit the bth.inf file to include that info so now you'll change the inf file that we posted above from that to this: (changes in bold)

The x's will be what you wrote down from the device manager's hardware id list for the dongle.


From there save the file and unplug the dongle. Plug it back in and it should then prompt you to install the drivers again. Before doing this make sure the disk for the dongle isn't in a drive. update the driver and it will install the XP SP2 stack. Giving you the option to see the Bluetooth icon in control panel.

Have done all this and got the Bluetooth work but thought it had installed the Widcom drivers so I uninstalled it but since I have discovered that it was actually was the MS Stack but and now when I try to install it can't find the MS Stack also when it was installed the BB Desktop software was still greyed out for some reason as if there are something missing from the DM so I downloaded the latest version but making no difference so I just cant figure I out, And I am running windows xp with sp2,

So, problem seems to be limited to Desktop Manager side.

There is a knowledgebase article for doing a total Desktop Manager uninstall - control panel add/remove, manually deleting folders and all registry settings.

Have you tried this before re-installing Desktop Manager?

Also, carefully double check your mods in the bth.inf file for typo's.

Same here. Just got my T60 and was hoping to go online via BT. Only works with the USB wire, but can't seems to do anything else. My BT section is grey out also.

your problem is in the bluetooth stack it must be windows bluetooth. Desktop Manager will not work with anything other then windows
