Default OS Update Issue

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I appreciate assistance on the following matters :

1) Can I change my BOLD from an version 4 OS to a version 5 OS ?

2) If the answer is yes to above, I have a problem to do that after downloaded a version 5 OS from operator Maxis (a Malaysian Telco) and trying to install it into my device which has a version 4 OS, my Dsktp Manager just can't detect the new software to install after I connect my phone to it. The answer I got from the BB advisor of the telco Maxis is that the device I got is originated from T-Mobile US and they may have installed a platform in the device that cannot take version 5 OSsoftware. Unless T-Mobile US comes out with a version 5 OS and I download and install it, I would not be able to install/update any version 5 OS for my Bold, is this true ?

Interestingly Maxis also said devices they sold has no problem of this. The software they use in thier devce is fully "open" that does not restrict installation of any platform or OS.

Thanks

1) of course

2) No. You can install ANY carrier OS. Follow the instructions in the stickied thread at the top of this forum.

I did delete the vendor.xml, I believe this is the step you guys want me to do right ?

Anyway I will try to update the lastest OS posted on this forum. It's just funny that I downloaded 2 OS software from 2 different carriers and they both don't works, thereafter I got the reply from the carrier as I posted above.

But is a generic data plan or a blackberry data plan (BIS or BES)? Also, you cannot have two OSes installed at the same time. Uninstall both of them. Then download the one you want, install it, delete vendor.xml, and run loader.exe.
