Default Memory Cleaning Enabled?

Please Login to Remove!

I've had my Tour for exactly one week and I've just now gotten around to reading all of the extraneous literature that came with the phone. One such document was Verizon's "BlackBerry Tour Maintenance Document" which suggests, for better performance, that you enable Memory Cleaning via the following path:

Options>Security Options>Memory Cleaning>Enable

Enabling Memory Cleaning brings up the following menu:

Clean When Holstered: Yes
Clean When Idle: Yes
Idle Time Out: Yes
Show Icon on Home Screen: No

Has anyone enabled Memory Cleaning with any success? Thus far, all I've noticed is that it takes longer for my phone to unlock as the cleaning process runs.

More importantly, does anyone know if running Memory Cleaning is the same as doing a nightly battery pull, either manually or via the QuickPull app?

Thanks all.

Several people I know swear that having Memory Clearner enable slows down their BB. I don't have it enabled on mine. It overwrites unused data - it doesn't free up data (like a battery pull/Quick Pull). I consider it an added security option.

I have used memory cleaner in the past, not necessary and I think Quickpull is much more effective.

They don't do the same thing!
They aren't nearly equivalent. Memory Cleaner overwrites unused memory. It doesn't free it up.

Thanks for the clarification, guys. I think I'll keep it disabled for the time being.

I enable it whenever I feel I need to refresh my BB.

What's the difference between freeing up unused memory and overwriting unused memory?

Frequently poorly written applications use memory and then don't release it when they are closed. The memory isn't being used, but isn't available.

When you use Memory Cleaner, it doesn't touch that memory, since it isn't "free".

Quickpull (by rebooting the device) frees up the allocated memory - and all over memory too!
