I never had any dropped calls on my T-Mo Pearl. But now that I have my Curve, I've noticed that I have a lot of dropped calls and failed calls while in UMA/wi-fi preferred mode. Kind of annoying when you're calling your insurance company (or any other company) and you're in the queue and the wait is at least 30 minutes and your call drops!

I turned off wi-fi via "manage connections" while not browsing on the Curve. So far, no dropped calls.

Does anyone else have this problem?

My UMA has been perfect so far. Is this at home or work? Are you using a T-Mobile branded router and if not have you put in QoS settings?

Um, does it help if I tell you that my UMA does in fact connect and is working fine in terms of internet browsing but it's just that I've noticed the dropped and failed calls? I mean, going from zero dropped calls to a lot of dropped calls should mean there's something wrong, right?

That would be expected and sounds like it could be a QoS issue. When you send packets of data over the Internet for like surfing websites if a delay exists the page waits and loads when it gets the data back. On a phone call / UMA you want the voice packets to have priority over everything else. So if you have a computer downloading music (legally ) the UMA/WMM will have priority and not get bogged down and drop the call. Does that help? Or have I just made more questions for you? Can I PM you as well? I am having the same kinds of issues and have a Linksys router (Non T-Mo) branded with QOS turned on with WMM enabled and I am still having dropped calls while at home on upper case UMA.

I am running UMA over a linksys wrt54g and a wap54g both with latest firmware (and different channels) and other than running wpa2 tkip+aes security all else is at its defaults. I have no problems with dropped calls or anything else. People I call tell me that the calls sound fine, perhaps a little tinny but its been rock solid.

Have you set your address for 911 on the TMO website? That is supposedly required.

Excellent point, I was told the service cant be used till that is filled in. Since I did mine over the phone, they would not activate it until they had filled that info in. You should be able to see if yours is filled in on the website, or give them a call.

Mine is working fine without the 911 info filled in. I went to the web page and mine is still blank.

(Besides, modulo our wanting to know whether or not the E911 settings had an impact - it's a good idea to have your E911 info on file in case you should ever have an emergency and need it...)

i dropped calls when i first got mine. i started paying attention to what the phone was doing before it dropped, and it was switching from UMA to EDGE. then it would drop.
i bought a better wireless router, and the issue went away. no more dropped calls.
i dont know if it was the router, or if tmobile fixed something with the uma to network handoff, either way, it is flawless now.

1) Trying moving your access point. Sometimes higher is better.

Do a site survey and see what your signal strength is where you drop the calls.


If you aren't using a TMO router, you should increase the priority of UDP port 4500.

Im am also dropping calls, but only when I transition from Wifi to T-mo's towers. At first I thought It was the bluetooth headset, but that is not the cause. I have port 4500 AND 14001 forwarded to my curve. Also have the QoS options set and the WMM support enabled. I am using a Linksys WRT54GS v7 - firmware is v7.50.2. I did enable the option on the BB in the Wifi settings to "Allow inter-access point handover" and am still experincing the issue. I did call T-mo, they verified my 911 address and that the H@H svc was added as well. Any other ideas??????

I reset my router and phone earlier. I have been able to successfully transition off of H@H(UMA) and onto EDGE/GPRS/GSM and not get dropped from the call. I am still not able to transition onto the H@H(UMA) service when I am on a call, and arrive at a WiFi router in my wifi network list.

OK, so it has been a few days, and I have been experimenting....

I am having errors when I roll over onto or off of the T-Mo towers. I have realized, although I previously stated that it wasn't the issue, that bluetooth connections are causing the issue. For some reason, my router, the LinksysWRT54GS v7, is using the 2.4GHz frequency, as does th bluetooth.

Looking at T-Mobile's FAQ's.....

What devices can cause RF interference?
Anything that uses 2.4 GHz spectrum may cause interference. Examples include:

• 2.4 GHZ cordless phones
• Baby monitors
• Microwave ovens
• Some cordless phones
• Some home video surveillance equipment
• Other wireless routers—remember to operate on different channels or disable unused wireless routers
• Bluetooth®*

I tested this....
100% of the time, while on my BT headset, or near others(w/in 10-15ft) using BT, the Hand-off FAILED.

100% of the time, with BT disconnected, and no other BT users around(again w/in 10-15ft), the Hand-off SUCCEEDED.

My 8320 should be arriving this week *fingers crossed* and I want to know if anyone on here has a 2wire dsl modem/router from AT&T and it if works with UMA? How do I dive in and look at all the available settings for this thing anyways? I know about http://home, but is there another way?

It's a 2wire 2701HG-B.
