Hey - a redundant black helicopters comment. I KNEW THEY WERE THERE. And when I turned around they were gone.

BES is fine but it is not the 'end all to be all' when it comes to wireless security. My ISP is all over this plus I got a land line heh heh...

Also, I'm not going anywhere as it is important to let people know that many employers DO monitor the private email accounts, blackberries, and personal computers without the employee's consent or knowledge; then make decisions based upon that information. The careers and lives of many many people have been detrimentally affected by this activity which is quite difficult to prove.

My question to you is this: If you found out your employer was accessing your blackberry without your knowledge or permission, what would you do?
Well the blackberry I have is corporate owned. So it is cool by me. Plus if they were accessing my berry, I would know, because I am the BES admin. We actually tried to get Verizon to give us the browsing history of a terminated employee once, but they told us don't collect and store that data (could be BS, but who knows).

You make it sound like the wireless companies are constantly being hacked into and monitored so corporations can gather data on employees. This is false. Wireless companies work very hard to remain secure and when they are breached, everyone finds out (because it makes for good news reports). Not to mention that what your talking about is illegal and no company is going to risk illegal activity just to gather data on some employee they could just fire and be done with.

It's true. Wireless providers don't archive the browsing history of PDA's or broadband cards - not required to do so by the FCC and it would be a ton of data to archive.

If you are the BES admin you can archive that history via the BES...

Yeah, I have the logging turned on. But for some reason it does not pick up everything, never has. Not to mention the log is not very easy to read.

Good luck (seriously) on regaining your privacy. Sanity? Ain't gonna happen.

They don't need your permission.

There are places where you can hide on the global internet. Most are in Nepal, Easter Island, and Kenosha Wisconsin. I would tell you exactly but I like my solitude.

Texting yourself? My man! Pure genius!! But when do you find the time to masturbate?

The government may not pay your bills, but they are extremely distressed over the 1,421 email message you have sent to George Clooney over the past 6 days demanding he reprise his role on ER.

Thanks to the keylogger program they installed, they watched as you typed it.

Go to Costco, buy a bunch of aluminum foil and build the device outlined at crazyisascrazydoes.com/hide_from_IT.htm It is labor intensive, but well worth the time. I am using the device now, and I bet you do not know what I am wearing! Huh? HAHA you can't see me no matter how hard you look!

On a related matter, the screen on my BB will not dim automatically. Just started doing this. I've checked the settings and they are correct. I was going to try a battery pull, but after reading your disturbing post, I think the IT professionals at work are doing this on purpose. (for reasons I cannot get into on a public forum) If I do a pull and fix this problem, they will just do it again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and possibly even again. But maybe if I kept them busy with thousands of text messages....

Darkblueberry.
Have you ever run the diagnostics tools. You'll notice each device has it's own unique IP address. Using this, anybody can remote onto the OS on your blackberry (search through JAVA.com, they even have a handy utility for this). Using this, they then modify the settings on your device at will. I've just remoted into my Account Manager's device and composed an e-mail offering me WES 2010 tickets.
Encryption? The Blackberry encryption scheme only works when going through the RIM network. Using IP adressing, you bypass this little feature.
