I am a n00b to BB maps.

If I buy a Pearl for my wife, are the BB maps included, or do I have to buy the add-on GPS to get them? Can the phone also download Google Maps or is that a GPS function as well?

My Pearl (from T Mo) came with bb maps. I was also able to download Google Maps for free.

Keep in mind, however, while you can view the maps, you'll need a GPS puck if you want to use your Pearl for real time navigation. IN otherwords, you can have it give you directions, like using MapQuest, but if you want turn by turn instructions as you drive, you'll need a GPS device to link with your Pearl.

Also you need the data plan to use the BBMaps, I can't use the map part since I don't have a data plan

It also depends on which carrier you're going with. If you're going with AT&T you won't have BBMaps showing on your device. It's a simple fix and there is a thread here explaining how to make it show up. TMobile has the app already showing.

You can download Google Maps (which works better, IMO) and it also works with or without a BlueTooth GPS receiver.

i searched and could not find bbmaps to show up on at&t phones? can you explain how?
