last week i had a working vodafone 9500 then i tried to upgrade software and got an error 507, so i took phone to a blackberry/xda repair shop as i could not get software to reload
next day store call tell me my phone back up and running,
i go and collect phone only to find they have put 9530 software on phone because this was the only one that would load

I'd try JL_CMdr to do a factory wipe, and then try to reload the correct OS.

Is the store unwilling to replace the unit they obviously made a huge error "fixing?"

No will not replace only offered refund cost to load software they tell me the 9530 was the only software that would load onto device so it must be correct
this is a Vodafone branded storm

wipe the device using JL_CMdr as described above.

The Blackberry OS is similar to a Macintosh - it "extends" the core set of what is on the device. So you can basically remove all of that and then load your correct software, but it will take some labor.

You can't. There is no way to load the 9530 software onto a 00 Idon't care WHAT the "store" told you. You can not load software for one model on another model.

Now the phone will only load 9530 software, as far as i know 9530 do not do a vodafone storm unless anyone knows different.

Actually, I believe you are incorrect. You can load after what I have commonly heard to be a "factory wipe". It's done quite often and the poster just told you he had a 00 functioning with 9530 loaded into it.

However, as I have said in other posts, once you do this the results could be irreversible. I am pretty sure this phone won't accept 00 software again without an expert who knows how to basically reformat the phone or swap out certain components and try reverting it back to 00. This is something well beyond the capabilities of most avid BB users.

I have heard of this very same problem in other Euro models where techs have wiped the phone and installed another OS just to get the unit back into service.

This is the same reason I will never load .76 into my VZW phone. Hacking your phone simply enters you into labyrinthine corridors that spiral you aimlessly into the realm of NO SERVICE.

What does the device display under Options->About? Does it say BlackBerry 9500 or 9530? What is printed on the label under the battery?

Exclamation But Does It Work?

I will take what has been said about 9530 software on a 9500 for granted. But, consider: They are both multi-mode phones.

The big question is this: Does the phone work with the 9530 software in it?

As I see it the fundamental difference is one phone defaults to CDMA while the other defaults to GSM. But in the automatic mode, the phone can switch. If the phone works with the 9530 software, I think the worst problem you may have is battery life. 73

The 9500 doesn't quite default to GSM as its band but has no other option.

the 9500 uses GSM / GPRS / EDGE / 3G (UMTS/HSDPA)

the 9530 is running a CDMA and GSM, so it can multimode.

If you have done what is suggested it is very very strange, but I would have a look and ensure that the Vendor.xml is removed and then see if you can reload the software if the device no longer thinks it is a vodafone device then you will come accross the issues that you are describing with the "no system software found"

They are totally different phones. Like and 8330 and and 8320.

You cannot load 9530 code onto an 9500. VENDOR.XML has nothing to do with it.

I'm betting since he got it on eBay that he ended up with a 9530 that simply has a Vodophone branded housing put on it. Would explain why 9500 OS won't load and 9530 will...if it actually did.

hi to all and thanks for all you input

as far as i remeber the phone had 9500 on it when i got it, now it will only load 9530
the guy from the repair shop told me today this could be a demo handset as it has no model number on the back label.
label look like this
PRD- then a long number
ASY- then a long number
POP- then a long number
PIN: number SMTDate:06/02/08
made in canada 1
ESN: number (this number is the same as IMEI)
IMEI: number
Property of Research In Motion

the handset was unlocked and working with orange sim
Now no sound from handset and when i put sim card in it tells me to insert sim

Most definately seems like a pre-release model.
