Default OS: 9650 5.0.0.1367/5.0.0.810 (Multilanguage)

Please Login to Remove!

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9650 smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1367 (Multilangauge)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1367
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.810
* Software Platform: 4.2.0.363
* File name: 9650_512AMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel1367_PL4.2.0.363_A5.0.0.8 10_Alltel.exe
* File size: 112.62MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...03923A1C591DB4

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9650:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

After I remembered the Windows7 quirk where I need to delete the "hidden" vendor.xml file, the install went fine. Seem to have about 20 megs more memory available than before - 342 vs. 323 or so.

Anyone know if the radio reception is improved any? I didn't have any problems with .732, but better is better...

Will be installing this shortly.

I am actually more concerned about the Radio, as 512 MB of Memory makes it less of need. (I can still remember my 8330/8830 days. )

I'll report when I run it for a bit.

All seemed to work well, except a couple of apps. Notably, Facebook.
Even after uninstalling FB and reinstalling, still got error message
that it couldn't connect. After running for a few hours and testing,
I went back to VZW offical 5.0.0.732.

The Facebook issue may not be related to the OS

Has the ringtone volume improved at all? How about signal stability?

Didn't have a problem at all with FB on this OS.

Can't say this helped much with the Radio, so this is not a necessary update at all. It has been less then 24 hours so I will watch a bit closer.

Only thing I give this update credit for, 1. It runs slightly quicker. 2. My Wi-Fi remains connected more reliably.

I've been running it for 24 hours and so far, I haven't had the 5 bars to 0 bars and back t0 5 bars yet. But, I will give it another 72 hours before i give it a thumbs up. So far, so good.

I live in Fairfield County, CT where this is has been a major problem so I hope this solves it.

Has anyone else with a 9650 noticed that the ringtones seem to be louder under .810 at the same settings compared to .732? First thing I noticed after switching from my Tour was I had to go into into all my sound profiles and jack up the settings on the ring tones to get the same volume output, to 8 or 9 where on the Tour they were at 5 or 6.

Now with .810 I've had to go change everything back to the lower levels again.

I'm in the same area & I saw the bounce once this AM on the train into the city, so I'm doubtful that .810 will be a complete fix. Seems to be a little bit better, although only time will tell.

Still trying to get PTT working on .810. I've reloaded all 4 relecant COD's (as well as the ALX) from the prior release, and even re-installed the PTT app after loading up the COD's. PTT isn't listed in the options menu, and I get a java error every time I try to launch the PTT app.

Edit: Been using Alt-NMLL to view signal strenght in dB instead of bars, and just watched my signal bounce from -80 (perfect) to -110 (almost 0 signal) then gradually back to -80. I haven't dropped a call yet, but I don't think the radio issues that some people have been experiencing are resolved w/ .810

I'm having problems again too. I continue to think it is just a display issue. When it shows 0 bars, if I try to make a call, full signal strength returns and if I call it from another phone, it can receive calls too. But, it is nonetheless very annoying.
