Default Verizon data service

What does the verizon blackberry data plan with unlimited usage offer vs the regular email and web browsing package? The blackberry data plan is 45 dollars a month versus 30 a month for the email and web.

Thanks for your help

$45 allows you to sync OTA (Over The Air) with a BES, if you have one (i.e. you get BES and BIS). $30 gives you everything but BES access (i.e. BIS only).

Neither one includes tethering. That is $15 per month on top of either plan. Tethering means connecting your phone to a computer and using it as a modem for Internet access for that computer.

Tethering is $30 when added to the $29.99 plan and $15 when added to the $44.99 plan, FYI.

Interesting. It wasn't a few months ago. Seems strange that they would force BIS-only users to upgrade to BES just to get tethering. (I'm saying that because $30 for BIS + $30 for tethering is the same as $45 for BES and $15 for tethering)

We have 2 curves here with the $29 plan and both have the $15 tethering along with it...

Yeah I'm not sure about that tethering post, it should be $15 w/ either plan.

These rates are not necessarily fair: I'm sitting at around $170/mo. Eventually, with competition that can deliver service and coverage comparable to Verizon, their rates will come down.

Verizon is the largest wireless carrier in the US. They have the dominant position in CDMA (Sprint is getting weaker). I am not sure where the competition is to drive down prices.

Especially with the soon to be completed acquisition of Alltel.

Yep - Alltel's 13mm customers will give Verizon over 80mm customers. Not much incentive to cut rates.

They really are the big red machine now. Kind of scary, but good at the same time, since I am a customer.
