I have gotten significantly faster on the Storm, but am nowhere near the speeds that I was on my QWERTY keyboard. However, I know that I will continue to adapt and the other features make it totally worth it!

I have reached my speed ceiling on the storm. I can go no faster, even though I want to. The click screen just can not respond fast enough. I have actually had to learn how to type slower on this device than on any other device. Anyone who is a rapid typist on "normal" keys will never be able to type as fast on the storm. You have to wait a a few milliseconds for the screen to pop back up after depressing a letter before you type the next letter. With regular keys you don't need to allow for this "physical" lag.

I would say I type at least 30% faster on my pearl than my storm. Overall I still prefer the storm as device on whole.

In a sentence, click the screen where you want the cursor to go. It will probably end up a little to the left, right, up or down from where you actually want it. No worries. Hold your finger still anywhere on the screen (don't click), and after a second the cursor will turn into a black rectangle. Then slide your finger so that the cursor goes exactly where you want it and remove your finger.

Once I learned this, it made all the difference in the world.
Awesome tip! Thanks.

The answer to your question is - YES, Definitely.

I handled a Curve before and the Storm touchscreen is far more forgiving with my thumbs. I am probably slightly faster with my Storm but speed came with practice. I see myself getting faster with use.

There are several tips to adjusting screen sensitivity that also help. If you dicker with the settings you will find your "zone".

agree with everyone so far I can type just as fast as I could with my curve or 8830. Really the biggest difference between this switch and any other was the amount of time it took to get us to the device. I use the sure type alot which I hadn't used in about five years. But after getting use to it again and the click-able screen everything is fine now. The typing is not what I have a problem with its editing things later, which I tend to do alot. I will save something as a draft and come back to it and want to take something out and it is a pain in the backside to do this for me at the moment. I'm slowly getting use to it but it is slower then I'm use to. I can usually pick up a blackberry and have it down in a week but my storm is taking a little longer. I'm on week three and so far that is my only problem that I'm facing. (But I think I'll have that down here very soon.)

I am not yet as fast as I was on my 8830, but this evening I closed the gap significantly thanks to the tip from above suggesting I "...just type and only look up to check spelling about once per sentence..." Thanks, Grailyn!!

Oh..and I do love my Storm...even if I never type any faster than I do right now.

Default my storm

I was able to type much faster on my 8130 pearl vs the storm. I've had my storm for 1 month now. The keys are slightly delayed while typing. I have version .75

Having moved from the Curve to the Storm on Tuesday, I can say it gets better the more you do it. As soon as you train yourself to keep your thumbs on their respective sides of the keyboard, the faster you get.

What I am most surprised by is how fast I can type in Suretype with one thumbs. Using suretype with one hand is incredible easy compared to trying to type with one thumb on the curve.

This is the most important piece of advice you will get on the storm. I've had mine for about 2 weeks now and I used to always screw up the "t". I would always try and use my right thumb for the "t" and always select the "y" instead. Once I trained myself to use the left thumb...everything started working. Another thing that helped was plain focusing on the key I wanted. I tried to jump right into touch typing and it just doesn't work. You need to train yourself on how the storm keypad works and reacts...then you will get faster. I'm still not as fast as I used to be...but then again...I'm fast enough to not notice the difference.

I type nowhere near as fast as I did with my Curve (I do QWERTY) but it's not an issue for me.

Right now I type way slow on the Storm, but I get faster by the day. I've only had the storm for 4 days.

Lightbulb Yes

Since I did the keyboard screw setting adjustment (elsewhere on this forum: See: Alternate Screen Fix) my speed is as fast or faster than it was on the 8703e. I have had the phone for about 2 weeks and most of the time has been spent learning to type with my thumbs (an absolute must). 73

Switching from the 8703 to the Storm is tough --- I have been typing for a week now and see minimal increases in speed and accuracy. I am hoping that you all that have conquered the challenge aren't blowing smoke. I will give it another week / another upgrade and then decide-but as of today my thoughts are that the Storm is not for the heavy emailer or call maker ....

After doing the changes to the keypad setup suggested in other threads and doing the "paper trick" as well, my typing is getting faster each day. I do QWERTY at 52 words a minute. BB speed will never be that high, but it's pretty fast now. People watch me type and ask how I do it. Responsive keypad is the answer. By the way, the Storm keyboard is noticeably better, and faster, than my iPod Touch (same as the iPhone without the phone).
