Default WiFi on Tour

Please Login to Remove!

Some Blackberry Product Manager is in a lot of trouble, I think.

We all know by now that the Blackberry Tour does not have WiFi - it was even announced to note have WiFi in the press release. And yet...

It's right there - WiFi on the Tour. You can check this out via RIM's feature comparison tool.

BlackBerry - Compare BlackBerry Smartphones and PDAs at BlackBerry.com

I just happened to be comparing to the Bold, but it did the same thing with all of the devices I compared too.

And so where the press releases apparently:

"The smartphone also offers Bluetooth 2.0 (including stereo Bluetooth and tethering) as well as assisted and autonomous GPS, but unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi."

RIM BlackBerry Tour 9630 announced for Sprint and Verizon | Crave - CNET

"The BlackBerry Tour 9630 sounds like the perfect BlackBerry device, but there's one catch: No Wi-Fi. It is a familiar and sad story with RIM CDMA devices and honestly, I don't understand the omission this time around."

BlackBerry Tour 9630 Coming to Verizon and Sprint This Summer - PC World

"The Tour has a 480x360 high-res screen, GPS, and Bluetooth, but no Wi-Fi. "

Just checked the website and the Tour no longer has wi-fi on the comparison tool. Must have been a website manager's mistake.

yeah, none of the official websites have Wifi listed. Not on RIMs site, VW or Sprint. So, looks like no WIFI.

The product development folk at RIM must be asleep or nuts! Not putting Wi-Fi into any new Blackberry is STUPID. Don't they pay attention to Apple?

It's not RIM's fault. The carriers have the perogative to choose what goes into the devices. Think GPS.

WiFi was actually on the test models, but it drained the battery like it was nothing. Plus, I'm sure Verizon had a say so in whether or not WiFi is needed. Heck, Verizon requires a minimum of $30 a month for their BB plan, comes with all the data you need (I would think lol,) why would they want you using WiFi on their network?

I'm gonna be interested in seeing how much time goes by before we start hearing rumors about the Tour2 (like the Storm)..

Even though I will probably end up picking this phone up anyway

The extra power is has will be nice.

WiFi or not, I'm all over this thing when Sprint gets it. I bet a second revision gets WiFi though. If anyone wants to hold out, it will be like the the 8800/8820. Could be six months though. I'd never make it!
