Exclamation Verizon OS Update

Please Login to Remove!

Dear Fellow Verizon Stormers. I just got off the phone with Verizon wireless tech support. They are releasing an update to the .75 OS to either .85 or .90 the first week of Feb. I know that these updates already exist but now that it will be official from Verizon maybe the bugs will be ironed out. Maybe it will make the storm what it was intended to be.

I am doubting it will be either of those releases.

Verizon techs are notoriously clueless.

If they were to upgrade to either of those Operating Systems they would probably have about 300K phones returned within a week.

I just hope they come out with an update that will eliminate multiple battery pulls a day. Had the phone about 2 months and on 3rd phone.

I have to chime in. I am still on my 1st phone, I have had it since they came out, I am still running the .75 OS, and I may have to do a battery pull once a week or twice at most. I guess I got lucky?

I am also on my first phone and running .75 OS. I do have to do a battery pull every so often but not very much, but I have just recently installed the BatteryPull program and it is scheduled to run every morning. I am doing that so I can have access to all available memory rather than having specific issues. There are a few bugs with .75 but so far I consider most of them minor.

Maybe I got lucky too.

hahaha, so true, i had to show a tech how to take the cover off the back of the phone and do it for a couple people in line. wow.

ive only had to do a couple battery pulls since i got mine and ive had it for a couple months now. everything seems fine to me, but im pretty patient. i just hope that this new OS irons stuff out as mentioned above.

I too am onn my original phone - and running .75

I have had to wipe the phone once due to a corrupt DB that the RIM tech walked me through to complete, but other than that it has performed flawlessly.

I do NOT do a battery pull on a regular basis. In fact I think I've only pulled the battery *maybe* 5 times since I've had the STORM.

I'm on my first phone also. Running .75 and things are ok. The usual gripes (camera is idiotic, changing screen format sometimes happens instantly sometimes it's literally 30 seconds, etc). I installed QuickPull and do a reboot every night. Deleted out VZ Nav and updated the input speed, etc. Phone works...it's not fully there yet. Haven't seen a major issue...but then again I'm running the standard apps so I shouldn't see an issue. IMHO the 3 things that will make this phone shine are:

1. Stable OS with basic functionality that works
2. App Store
3. Plazmic so we can get some damn themes

I too doubt that Verizon would officially release .85 or .90 ... Actually I would guess it would be .91 or something above .90 .... I noticed that the App Store icon actually turned back to the one on .75 with .90 ... That may be a little clue, however .90 is very close to being a great release while I miss it's speed, I have found .85 to be the most stable of the "BETAS" for me. .75 is definitely more stable than .85, however .85's speed is worth the slight instability in my opinion.

I'm on my first phone...

I went to .75 when VZW released it...

I was tired of the Camera being slow and other "slowness" and went to .83 then .85 and now .90...

.90 is by far the worst of the lot... .83 gave me fits w/ the lovely batterykilling backlit not shutting down, .85 continued that... but now, I get the "media card" lockups in .90 to the tune of 4 battery pulls in 2 days... I hope VZW does release an actual release soon, even if it's a step down I'll be going back to official releases.

I have found that if you hit the top left lock button on your storm it shuts the backlight off if you need. Do it once and it seems to break the loop.

It is Thursday, I am surprised that we have not seen .91 or .92 yet...usually thursday is the magical day when these things are "leaked"?

I am at 1-2 battery pulls daily. Normally I just do the first battery pull in the morning because the touch screen simply wont respond. Quite regularly I am doing a battery pull around the late afternoon for the same reason.

Beside the battery pull necessity is the terrible camera application and difficulty in getting keys at the edge of the screen to respond. Having the phone set up for password access can be a pain when thumbing the return. Or using the left side cap key on the full qwerty. What a royal pain!

Hey Pdutta2000, what are you referring to with regard to "updating the input speed"?

All said, I still love this phone. I am hoping the new OS cures the battery pull issue and adds some transitional speed.

How come folks seem to reccommend removing VZ Nav? i close it when not needed. Is it just to increase free memory or does it impede/slow down the OS even when closed? Screen sensitivity, trouble answering callsand slow responsiveness switching portrait to landscape are my major gripes and hope a new OS helps..

I don't use it so to me there is no point in having somehting on the BB that takes up space that I don't use.

I use it only on occasion to locate movie, resteraunt when traveling but could probably live w/o it very easily...if removal would spped up my storm that would make the decision easy.

Nusher. I thought the same thing. However, even when the application is closed, for some reason it still runs.

When I deleted the program, it was not activated. However, during the process the phone advised me the program was running as asked if I still wanted to delete it.

I am not an expert but it seems the program still runs in some aspect despite not being activated.

I just use BB Maps and Beyond 411, who is working on an update for the Storm.
