Default Blackberry vs. MS WinMo 6

Please Login to Remove!

Can anyone help on this question.

I have a PDA win mo 6 and its syncs well with my outlook seamlessly. Can either the new blackberries Storm or 9000 series do the same and keep all my information in my black berry?

Can I get rid of my PDA and replace it with a BB?

thanks

Depends on what you mean by all information. Did you look at the FAQ by any chance? And did you do a search?

Assuming that you will be using the BB personal service, a.k.a. BIS, email will not sync. new email will be pushed to your device once you have a BB data plan and set up the accounts in BIS.

You can sync contacts, calendar, tasks and memos using Desktop Manager, similarly to how ActiveSync works in the Windows environment.

I did a search..but..very hard to find this info... but as you say..concerning syncing with contacts, cal..etc..tasks..

so I will not lose any data from using a Black berry?

Does it use Active sync or another application?

Thanks

Default Sync Windows vs Blackberry

If you are willing to use a usb cable then you can pretty much get the same results. However if you are going to sync over the air, and do not have an exchange server with Blackberry $3,000 software installed, well then you are SOL. One of my biggest gripes is that BB has not come out with a program that matches MS Active sync. A huge untapped market is there as not everyone has exchange and not every small business wants to shell out $3,000 so that my $300 phone can sync OTA, especially when MS Activesync is free.
There are workarounds where you use Google (leave it to these guys to find a solution) as sort of a middleman. This will filter you email for spam and sync your calendar as well. Contact sync will still be limited to usb connection until Google solves that issue as well.
I would love to get the new Storm, however the sync issue keeps me where I am at, 8130 with all the workarounds.
Good Luck

Need more info to answer.

1. Are you talking company or personal outlook?

2. If company, does your company use BES?

It doesn't cost $3000 to get wireless sync with a BB. There are plenty of hosted exchange and bes providers out there with monthly fees starting around $10/month.

Active Sync is a Microsoft application. You will need to install Desktop Manager that comes with the BB to sync using Intellesync via the USB cable. Just read your User Guide and it will tell you how to do it.

Hosted BES is definitely an option. Been using it myself for years now.

The new google sync software works great too if you don't want the hosted account which runs $10 for the service plus $15-20 additional for AT&T.

With google and OTA sync, you don't get notes and tasks but the calendar and addressbook sync work well.
