Default Upgragded to latest OS- how do I go back?

Please Login to Remove!

Perhaps this was a mistake on my part but I did not record the OS version I was using before upgrading a few weeks ago. I had been backing up on my computer every couple weeks with the desktop manager and it only recently started asking me if I wanted to update the phone, if that helps.

I would like to revert back to the previous OS version once I figure out which version that was.

How can I go about doing this?

After getting past the initial problems (QuickLaunch had to be reinstalled/reconfigured, calendar had to be erased and restored) I ran into a few issues I have not yet solved (missing call timer on the theme I use is one of them). But worst of all, the Curve is now crashing two-three times a day. The only recent change has been the OS so I am hoping reverting back to the old one will solve this problem.

Thanks.

have you tried a battery pull?
And is the noted OS in your profile the new one?

Yes and yes.

What was the version prior to 4.5.0.138? I had been using the desktop manager for months and hadn't gone through this upgrade process before so I'm guessing it was the last version.

When you say crashing what exactly do you mean. I have my wife's running that version and have not had any problems at all.

The previous OS before .138 was .131 and here is how to downgrade:
How do I downgrade the OS on my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ

Also, there are newer OS releases than .138. Try .160 or .169. I am running .169 without any issues.

Also, the missing call timer is a known issue with .138. I had the same issue with that OS.

Can I upgrade a Verizon Curve to .169? Why doesn't the desktop manager application offer to do this when it checks for new device os versions?

I tried going to Verizon's upgrade site since I read I need to user carrier-specific sites to upgrade. Their site only identifies the software as 4.5, updated 8/11/09. Not sure if that's .138, .160, .169 or what. Any idea? Even better would be knowing how to find out in the future.

Thanks.

Yes you can. The reason is because Verizon did not release .169. It will only prompt when your carrier releases the software. If you want to install it, you would need to delete the vendor.xml file.

Ok, thanks. Where should I download .169 from? The upgrade post in the FAQ you linked to only talks about the carrier-specific site.

.170 is actually the most recent and you can get it here:

or you can get .169 here:
