Default Block a Service Book?

Please Login to Remove!

Is it possible to block service books on a BIS-connected 9000 running 266? I have debranded (shhhhh...) my Bold, and would like to not have to keep deleting the ever-so-helpfully-provided AT&T LbsConfig service book that makes the BlackBerry Maps icon disappear. Is this something I can do without creating a policy and applying it to the device?

Assuming I do need to go that route, is there a tool for applying the policy via a tethered connection to DM, or do I need to install a BES and attach the device to it to push that policy down?

A BES policy could block it, but not on BIS.

Pay ALOT of money for a BES, figure out how to create a policy and activate your device on it.

But thats just pointless.

Cheapest and easiest thing to do is to hide the icons.

I was really trying to be serious since I'm highly interested in figuring out exactly how to create a policy on my BES server to block carrier service books (MediaMall, etc.

If I set the FIPS Level IT policy rule to FIPS 140-2 Level 2 compliance, would this block the carrier service books, or is there a specific policy that I'm missing to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance (awesome forum btw)

Ah you already have a BES.
Then creating the policy shouldnt be hard
and I would imagine is documented somewhere on the RIM website.

IT Policy Reference Guide.
http://docs.blackberry.com/en/admin/...ence_Guide.pdf

That will get you what you need and much more. Searching for "Service Book" should get you to the policy you want to enable.

I have been reading up on this - if you get the answer to block service books, let me know if you have the time!

Thanks

The short answer: I'm not sure.

I'm running BES for MDS Applications (4.1.3), and it (very) unfortunately does not have the same granular IT policy options, as BES for Exchange/Lotus/etc does -- this version of BES will be end of life relatively soon, but does appear to have been neglected by RIM.

I've set the newest test policy to be FIPS-140-2 Level 2, and haven't sent he service books reappear, but we'll see.

I have tried all the options that seem relevant on our BES for Exchange, (5.0), and nothing seems to block the service books coming from the Carrier - I can disable them(features), but they still appear. Same thing with the camera, GPS, Bluetooth, etc.

They can be disabled, but still clutter up the home screen, and memory.

Anyone have any service book solutions?
