Hey all,
I've been a BlackBerry user for over a year now and am curious to know how much of the informtation that flows through my BlackBerry can bee seen within my workplace servers?

I'm not very technical so i'll try to explain this as best as possible, maybe some of you may know what im talking about. My phone was issued through my company and is connected through our servers at work for internal e-mail and apparantly some other sort of blackberry server or portion of our internal servers that they connect to.

Is there anyway they can see that im using any other applications on my phone, like MSN Messenger or BB messenger from this server that I'm connected to? Or when i open up my browser to open up an external e-mail like MSN or Gmail. And what about SMS text messages?

Would they be able to view any historical data from MSN or BB messenger? Or even my e-mails from MSN or Gmail? In otherwords would they be able to see my conversations or read my external emails?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here's an entire thread on the issue, and in that thread, a couple of links to even more discussion.

Bottom line (to summarize and to cut your reading short) If you don't want your employer to know what you are doing on THEIR BlackBerry, don't do it.

Options > Security Options > General Settings

What's listed at the bottom under the 'Services:' heading?

Take a look at this very useful article: What does BES see; what can be tracked/logged? - Port3101.org : Your BES Connection

My personal opinion: It's a company device on a company server, you should NOT try to remove yourself from their server. There are ways to do this, but you will stop receiving corporate email to the device, and could possibly stop receiving a paycheck as well.

Second that opinion. If you're doing anything on it that you wouldn't want your boss to see, you shouldn't be doing it in the first place. Is it really worth being reprimanded or worse? Probably not.
