Default How to get an app

Sorry if this has been asked before, but is there a way to get an app that wont download due to not being available (apparently) in the U.S.? Its on the list, but does not show US as an available country.

If it's not available in your country, then you can't get it.

What app?

The call recorder for blackberry. Shows to now be available, but only for 9900 and one other model. I have no idea why it is available in every other place but the US. Surely there is a way to get this on the phone...

GOD YES!!! This is exactly the app I want too. I had something similar on my Treo several years ago...automatically started recording both sides of the conversation when a call was made or received, you could set it to beep or not beep, saves the call as a voice note...wonderful stuff.

If I had the first clue how to do write apps I would make one for BB10....

Without violating any TOS here, it'd be nice hypothetically if someone in another country would download the app to their phone (9900/9930)and sell me the .cod....

It's not available because recording calls without informing the other party is not legal in the US.

That is not correct. This type of question always seems to degenerate into a legal discusson, and I hate that. Please form a legal opinions thread for that. The fact is that recording calls IS legal in the US, the "informing" or consent varies by STATE (my state is one party consent). But see, it really doesnt matter because it is not big brother BlackBerry's place to determine what is legal for end users. After all, its not legal for me to throw my phone and hit a person in the face either but RIM does not make me carry it on a lanyard to prevent the unlawful assault.

Im new, but lets stay focused.

PJD642, Im with you. I just left the Palm OS platform in favor of the BBerry and the one app that I hated to leave was CallRec. I did find one call recorder that I was able to get in the U.S. called "Call Recorder" by SRID Games. It works fine on the 9900, but lacks much of the functionality of CallRec. Other side of the conversation is prettly low volume but can be heard, so it works until something better is developed or some other means of loading one can be found.

I'm glad to hear that you know everything about the legal aspects of recording calls. That's fantastic. However, regardless of whether of it's RIM's job, they have a legal right to not offer an application through AppWorld that could allow their users to possibly break the law. It's the same reason that they do not allow apps for the distribution of pornography. It's not their job, but they have the right.

Well, thats true, they have the right to not offer any apps at all, but thats not what you stated was the reason. If that is the reason, that they just dont want to, then great.

And since the laws vary from state to state in the US, there's no way for RIM to ensure that the laws are not being violated by use of such an application which likely accounts for the reason that it might be available in other countries while not being available in the US.

Yes, but again compliance is an end-user issue. Since this is apparently like some sort of moth to flame type deal on the legal discussion, I guess Ill have to start an new thread about the original topic. Lets talk about how to get the app, what a great idea that is.

No need to start a new thread. You've already been answered in this one. Sorry if you don't like the answer.

No, it does not, and don't post unrelated questions in a thread. I know you're trying to build your post count so you can spam for your app, but this is not the right way to do it.

I'm also a former Treo user, and a happy CallRec customer. Before you give up on that other app, you should be aware that there are a couple of hardware limitations that you might be hitting. The first is that the handset microphone is usually a single-port device, so it's usually NOT a noise-cancelling microphone. That being the case, some or all of your foreground noise might be overpowering the weaker incoming telephony stream. Try a wired headset with the app and see if that fixes the problem. I typically use older two-port Plantronics mobile headsets to cut down on background noise since it's impossible to carry on a conversation on a NYC midtown street with a conventional handset or single-port Bluetooth headset.

Second issue relates to the first. The author of CallRec posted about this a while ago, it made perfect sense for many operating systems, and I'm sorry I didn't keep a copy A wired headset uses the same telephony stream as a handset microphone. A bluetooth headset establishes a different stream, and the app would need to be able to switch streams to be able to access it, therefore the app would need to be much more complex. Strong suggestion to use wired headset to test the app, if you have one.

I looked into this further and looks like most of them have issues with the 9930. I just tried the SRID Games free evaluation version thats supposed to work with the 9930, and that doesnt work either. Opens files to record but doesnt save or close them. Had the same problem with Berryrecord v1.0 (which was abandoned by its author years ago).

Just to give it a fair chance, I removed both apps, rebooted and reloaded Call Recorder. Still the same issues, so I removed it again.

BTW, the reason why those apps are not available through Appworld is probably because RIM sells a premium secure recording service for commercial use. Probably a 99% chance that RIM wont allow a product to be available through that service that would compete with one of their own.

There are definitely Blackberry call recording apps that work (without a pay-as-you-go conference call server), some better or worse than others. But theres also a lot of people who feel they have a right to mind your business and make them difficult to find.

I have an update on this. I contacted the author at toysoft.ca about their recording app and the answer that I got was that it only works on the 9900 (GSM), not on CDMA devices. The difference between the baseband processors for the GSM and CDMA devices is probably the issue. Until someone can be convinced to develop the app for CDMA devices were not going to see any progress.

The OP has the 9900 (GSM device) on AT&T (GSM network), so your response does not apply.
