Why no Desktop Manager?

The only other way I can think of is to do a security wipe on your device, and that will WIPE and DELETE all preferences, data, contacts, calendar, etc.

yeah, the only way to wipe all your contacts w/o wiping the entire device is with the desktop manager.

I would go to Google, delete the duplicates, then resync your phone. Then in BB-DM, sync your phone with outlook. Then create a backup file from BB-DM. At least, this is the way I would do it. I don't use google sync any more. I have some contacts 5 to 6 times in my address book. If I were you, I would back up your phone at least once a week. You never know what may happen.

I've used the backup and delete method as well..in an Exchange/Outlook environment I back up the contacts in Outlook to a *.pst file, then delete the online version of contacts from Outlook, sync the BB, turn off wireless sync of contacts on the bb and restore the Outlook contacts from backup..I imagine something similar might work in your environment...

Default Shortcut to deleting complete Address Book

I found the following post concerning how to completely delete your Address Book:

BlackBerry 101: How To Clear Your Address Book Database | CrackBerry.com

Go to > Contacts > Menu > Options >

Hold down the right aA button and while you have it held down click on the following letters RSET (hold Caps Key, while holding - type R S E T)

Accept Prompt (This will erase your [email address] contact list.... continue?)

If you still have Google Sync on your Blackberry Bold 9700, you can also try going into GoogleSync, clicking on the Blackberry menu key and selecting "Options". When in the GoogleSync "Options" screen, press the Blackberry menu key again and select "Reset Contacts Sync". This should delete all the contacts on your Blackberry.

I've used these instructions when I had duplicate calendar events (but I obviously selected "Reset Calendar Syn" instead of "Reset Contacts Sync") and it worked in my case.

Options -> Security Options -> Security Wipe.

But the right aA and RSET works like a charm and is also a good way.

Wow, it was that simple, eh?

I had the same issue with the duplicated contacts, so I disabled the sync, cleared it up on Google then disabled the "confirm delete" option, and just hit "del" and "d" about 1000 times. Only took a few minutes .

I gave up syncing with google or T-Moblie. I use the filter/categories a lot. If I go the see relatives in another town or am looking for doctors or business contacts only I filter them. Syncing dupes my contacts and loses my filter/categories. I back my bb up every day on my computer to my removable drive. In Outlook I have to make sure it has the same categories that I have in my BB to make it work. The calendar is the same way if you use more than one email account say one for business one for personal and one for BB things like downloads. For me that helps filter my calendar also. Just FYI. Sorry for running on so long.
