Question 8830 VZW No 1X or 1XEV on specific cell tower

Hi,

I've been having this problem with my 8830 at one of my clients in NJ.

A few minutes after arriving at the client, I lose my 1XEV and usually get a D or nothing at all (but I do have a few bars).

When this happens, I cant make or receive calls and I have no blackberry services. Once in a while when it is on D a few emails will sneak in...weird.

I am on my second ticket with verizon, they are telling its a device problem but I really think its an issue with the tower. I do travel around the the NY/NJ area quite a bit and have NOT had the problem anywhere else.

Today, I decided to try vzaccess and see what would happen. The device went from no symbol to 1xev (lowercase) and connected, 2 seconds later went to 1x and disconnected. It then went back to 1xev(lowercase) and seems to be working normally now which i find very weird.

I can browse internet, get emails, send emails and make and receive calls.

I'd hate to go through getting a new 8830 since I have several things tied to my pin only to find out it is a tower issue.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I am running the Sprint version of the OS, but this also happened on Verizon version of the OS.

I've been in areas where I cannot make or receive calls but can send and recieve data. Sounds like a tower issue to me as well.

Weird, I've been on 1xev(lowercase) since yesterday but everything is working so I'm trying to resist messing with it. In NYC today.

I had called customer service last Saturday to add the tethering option to my plan for $15/month. The rep told me to power cycle my 8830, so I did. Upon rebooting, I had a 1xev, then 1x, then 1X. It stayed that way and I could no longer get a 1XEV connection. I called them back, and we tried every troubleshooting technique, but nothing would get my 1XEV connection back. My partner's Berry and my aircard were still getting a strong 1XEV connection. The odd thing was that my berry was working fine (just slower) regardless of 1xev, 1x or 1X.

Bottom line...they had to remove the phone from my account, delete all the features, then go back and add everything to my account. After a battery pull, that did the trick.

It sounds kind of similar to what you describe. You might suggest that to tech support to see if it fixes the issue.

Have you done the *228 update on your BlackBerry? That will update the phone with the latest tower info. If you've talked to VZ you probably already did that. (Option 2)
