I've tried three ways: DM, Loader.exe (with vendor.xml removed) and the Mac OS X desktop installer. None have worked.

I'm now downloading the version for Sweden and Denmark as it seems some that had issues with the Bell Mobility version (thats the version we're all talking about here) had success with the Sweden/Denmark one.

Is there an additional step than what is normally done when updating an O/S

The error message I get is:
This application is not compatible with your device and cannot be loaded.

The vendor.xml file is not there. I have also attempted to 'force' the loader file to and nothing.

Help Please !!!

Cool

Blackberry Bold 9000 on AT&T network.

After about 2 weeks on this new OS, I love it. All the little quirks and user interface issues are fixed.

-Visual Voicemail is not found. Not an issue for me, cause I don't use it.
-Noticed the lower battery life could be possibly attributed to the increased brightness of the screen. The new OS increases the brightness a bit, I had to lower it on the settings and that seemed to bring my battery life back to its normal usage.

-I love the new bubble SMS/MMS interface, texting is much easier.
-Voice command is updated to a newer version too.

I like it

Lucky you, Phil. I don't even get that. Both Loader.exe and DM just ignore the fact that I have OS 5 for the 9000 installed. Its like it is deciding "Uhm, OS 5 files right there? Don't see them. Here, have some 4.6."

Wirelessly posted (Bold 9000)

I found the file manager. I had to "show all" and it was under the downloads folder for me, for some reason. Default perhaps?

PHEW! Man that was the most challenging update I've ever done.

I had to use BBSAK (get it at RIMGeeks.com).
I started BBSAK, plugged in the Bold 9000
Then I clicked the Load OS button under the Restore tab.
This brought up the Loader.exe (same one i had been accessing by navigating to it) and for some reason, this time it recognized that I had OS 5 for the Bold 9000 installed.

I'm changing the few settings that I have to after every update and everything seems to be running smoothly. :D

Question Anyone tried this?

There are some uses who are reporting that OS 5.0 from Sweden is better than the one from Bell.

Check this out at:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ml#post1547420

If mods feel that this is something they can add to this post (link to this download), could be helpful to those user with high memory leak on their units.

For those missing 'F' shortcut check this thread:

What seems to be the problem with the browser anyway in this version? I don't notice anything on my end.

So whats up with it?

Well, I was able to updated my 9700 Bold2 after updating my Desktop Manager, however it will still not update the 9000 Bold.

I'm having problems access the site to get the BBSAK program. When I am able to access it I'm gonna try it out.

Default i have a question

I am wondering if any of you have this problem or not
i did upgrade the desktop manager to version 5.0.1.28 and also upgrade my bold 9000 to 5.0 version as well ...

however .. i cannot use bluetooth to connect my bold to desktop to sync the data in between ... i can only use the USB connection to exchange the data .. also i have problem to use bluebooth on my bold 9000 to connect with the handfree device as well ....

just wondering if the bluetooth function on 5.0 version is not working or not ... it seems can detect the new bluetooth device but cannot connect and use the device in between .... any hints for me how to fix this?

thank you ...

I have been fighting with this thing since installing it on my 9000 Bold. Since installing it I cannot send or receive SMS messages. MMS works fine but SMS is a no-go. I have been researching it and tried all of the fixes to no avail. Oh well, I'll wait for AT&T to release their 5.0 then try again.

Install went OK. (Sweden version)
Activated automatically on BES (used DM within network).
Had to use BBSAK to get VVM back.
No problems with Browser.

Too early to tell about battery life.

I have real concerns, because after a fresh install on a new OS typically you never see as much memory again and loose up to 10 megs over time, even after a battery pull. This has me worried!
That is a quote from me two weeks ago immediately after I installed the Bell version of the OS. After seeing memory go down to 4 mgs (never happened on other OS's) a number of times, I decided to reinstall 5.0.0.411, this time the Sweden Denmark version. After reinstalling, my memory is virtually back to where it was before, down perhaps 2mg, a great improvement over first installation of 5.0.0.411 when memory went down from 26mg to 15.6 on a fresh install. I cannot say if reinstalling the Bell version of the OS would have resulted in the same memory improvement. All I know is that my memory concerns are no more.

On other improvement on the reinstall of 5.0.0.411. Boot times under a minute. I think that is faster than any 4.6 I had.
Under 4.6.0.303 boot times were over four minutes. Even after the first installation of 5.0.0.411, my recollection is that boot times, while faster than my last 4.6, were approximately 3 minutes. The reinstallation must have cleaned out a lot of crap.

First you'll need the 9700 OS installed in your comp
(I used 5.0.0.680/5.0.0.423)
Connect BB to computer.
Then OPEN BBSAK
and click Read System
if you find any
net_rim_bb_vvm.....cod of any kind highlight it, and click delete COD(s).

Let your BB reboot and what not. but while it's rebooting..
navigate to
[Win7/Vista]
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9700EastAsia_v5.0.0.423_P5.1.0.116\Java
[WinXP]
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9700EastAsia_v5.0.0.423_P5.1.0.116\Java

and find

net_rim_bb_vvm.cod
net_rim_bb_vvm_alu_http_lib.cod
net_rim_bb_vvm_help__en.cod
net_rim_bb_vvm_resource.cod
net_rim_bb_vvm_resource__en.cod
net_rim_bb_vvm_resource_114.cod
net_rim_bb_vvm_resource_114__en.cod
net_rim_bb_vvm_resource114.cod
net_rim_bb_vvm_settings_lib.cod

I know some people don't like keeping help files but I do. so it's your choice.

Once you find those vvm files copy it and paste it in a folder easy to navigate to.
I copied mine in C:/Program Files (x86)/BBSAK/CODs/VVM/
because it's just easier for me.

Hopefully your done rebooting cause I know it takes forever.
Once again open your BBSAK and click INSTALL COD's
go ahead and navigate to where you copied those vvm files and install!
wala let your thing reinstall and reboot.. and hopefully all goes well
I had to do a bunch of reboots cause of all the mass apps i reinstalled
but maybe after you install it and run it try to do a battery pull and then

Options> Advanced Options > Host Routing Table> Register Now!

that's what I did.. hope it works for you
Thank you for taking the time to write back. I did as you said, rebooted multiple times, resent service books, resent host routing, pulled battery. but now, the vvm icon doesn't show up anywhere. home directory, downloads, applications, i cant seem to find it anywhere!

Hmmm!

Any ideas where it is going?

I see the cods when I connect to bbsak.

I took the plunge two weeks ago and love it. I must say that my Bold runs noticeably faster on this new update. I have not had any issues except the known camera buttons.

Memory usage was my major concern of mine when updating. On 4.6 I had 24 megs free, now I have from 18-20 free. I have noticed that loading Bolt browser seems to drain memory quite a bit, even down to 12 meg. 1`ve since deleted Bolt and I`m back up to 19 meg. Has anyone else noticed this ?

This OS does seem to take up more memory. I still have Bolt installed, but took off Worldmate, which seemed to free up lots of memory.
