Default Just bought BlackBerry. Fake or not? :S

Please Login to Remove!

Hi!

I just recently bought a blackberry and would really like to know if this is a fake or not.

Just some details on it:

The battery is white with writings "BP-4L" and "3.7V"
When I remove the battery I can see that my model is as such: "MODEL:9700i+"
underneath it says a M_IMEI number which differs from the S_IMEI numbers.

Also a HUGE problem that I have is that I CANT find the Options icon in the menu. The BB I got came with french language and I just can't find the Options icon to change the language.

Other than that the BB looks really legit. Help is greatly appreciated!

FAKE!

The "TV" button on the keypad is a dead giveaway.

It looks pretty fake for a fake. The dual SIM card slots are another dead giveaway of a fake.

On the bright side, I think I see a button that gets you free HBO.

It also has a front facing camera, which Blackberry do not do.
Its fake.

Yes. It is fake.
In China, we call it Shan zhai.
Indeed we can't buy a complete new BB in China.

Its not a fake. This is a euro model that was a euro 3G run device. In europe their 3G network allows more complex data use of the devices, such as live TV and video conference calling, hence the front facing camera. You wont see these in the US.
Log into RIM european site and you will see these and other models. Specially now since most of Europe and now Asia have gone to 4G networks and offer even more complex devices to handle the abilities of the networks.

Have you tried reseting the BB by setting a security password? enter it wrong too many times and the BB device will reset and wipe the memory. This allows you to reset the phone under english language and then you will be able to understand the menu options.

No, it's fake.

RIM has never produced a dual-sim model. Not even in "secrit" for Europe.

Also most of Europe hasn't gone 4G.
And RIM don't make front facing camera models for Europe. The 9700 in Europe is EXACTLY the same as the 9700 in the US in terms of number of SIM slots [1], number of cameras [1, on the back] and TV functionality [none].

It is not halal to post unrelated questions in other users' threads.

Unfortunately, your phone is permanently locked, and there is nothing you can do. I recommend purchasing a brand new device from a reputable dealer such as Axiom Telecom. They have some of the best prices in Dubai, and all handsets are unbranded and unlocked. They have stores in all the major malls, and I have personally purchased a BlackBerry from their store in Mall of the Emirates.

Like dc/dc said, it's permanently locked to the original carrier. Somebody tried (unsuccessfully) to enter an unlock code 10 times. That's all folks! There is no reset.
