Default Bold Grassroots Campaign, We want to select EDGE!

Please Login to Remove!

So, I am sick and tired of not being able to select back and forth between the 3G/EDGE networks without either de-branding or going into the engineering screens of my Bold.

I decided to start a grassroots twitter campaign to get the word out that this is a feature WE WANT, nay we NEED! Chance of it happening are pretty slim, but it can't hurt to try, right?

If you are on twitter, go ahead and donate your status today from
www.enableedge.net

Tell you friends.

Thx.

Rim didn't restrict it your carrier did! I have a Rogers 9000 using it on ATT I have the ability to switch between 3G and EDGE

With 9000 made for ATT I don't have the option

Wirelessly posted (My Bold)

I do =). But we can't discuss this on the forum.

Anyways, it is ATT doing this. NOT rim. So re-direct your rants and protests at att and you might get somewhere

Confirmed 100% that this is an At&t issue. Its hardwired into the firmware..mainly based on whether your vendor ID code is 102 or not. Vendor 102 = No choice. Vendor xxx8800; 102 you have a choice...

Same here. Rogers unlocked Bold on the AT&T network. I can, and do, toggle off 3G whenever I want. If I'm in a fringe area for 3G coverage I'll go to 2G only. With issues like this, and the latest fiascos with Samsung phones and the "wonderful" AT&T firmware I will not buy another phone from them. Ever. Unlocked/unbranded only. The second AT&T gets their grubby mitts on a phone they screw with it until it's got their own particular stink on it. I pass.

I am new to the forum and am having trouble finding out how to get my problem solve so I thought I would give you a try. I have an AT&T Bold 9000 and now returned to Australia find it will not operate on the Optus network( local Provider). I get alot of conflicting information as I hve downloaded the bold spec and it is compatible with the HSDPA 900 and 2100mhz frequencies used by optus. I am wondering whether I need to download the OPtus firmware to solve the problem. Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated

You should have started a new thread.
But anyway, loading the Optus firmware will not solve the problem as the OS is the same regardless of carrier.

EDGE is 2G in the US as opposed to GPRS being 2G in the UK. The UK has no problem.
AT&T block the ability to change between 2G (EDGE) and 3G because they want everyone to use the 3G despite the fact that they may not have good signal in their area, or the ability to change when abroad.
Again, it has no relation to anyone in the UK on a UK network.

so when speaking of switching from 3G to 2G .. do you mean that the phone will not go into 2G mode when 3G is weak or not available ?

No, the phone will automatically switch between, but you cannot manually switch between.

I can switch between 3G and EDGE, in fact my phone does it automatically, as my option is set to 2G or 3G network.

Are you an att customer? Of the 30 Bolds I've setup for users here in Illinois that are all ATT, none of them give me the option to manually change to edge/2g. They will do it if there is no 3G coverage, but if I. Have one bar 3G or full bars edge, edge is about same speed and much less battery drain.
