Default Driving myself mad!! Please Help

Please Login to Remove!

Ok, So I have my own server running Windows 2003 Srv. I have gone through the windows setup step by step as per the TXT file that comes with the zip file for BBCorrector.

I have tried everything but can't get it to work.

Is there anyone who has loaded this on a windows server????? If so please can you let me know what you did.

The original documentation gives examples for local path in IIS and the settings for the '.cgi' path in IIS with a %s switch I have tried putting this in in may ways but it still doesn't do anything.

I have ammended the Script files laoded all the perl stuff, spell checker stuff.

Please can someone let me know how to get this working with Windows, I really need a spell checker...

Also, I have tried the link on http://www.rebreathertech.com:81/cgi...ctorServer.cgi on my BB and all I ever get is a "BBCorrector Error: HTTP response code:400"

Hummmm...

HELP HELP HELP

Default Still trying...

Hi,

I've read through the string, and I continue to get an HTTP 400 error. When I try to connect to the server using an internet browser, my error is:

The connection has timed out
The server at www.rebreathertech.com is taking too long to respond.

I've got an 8700c on Cingular. Thanks.

I am on Cingular using their BIS service. I would appreciate any and all help.
You need to get Cingular to add wap.cingular as your APN. There's a thread here that talks about doing this (in the 8700 forum). There's a number in there that will get you directly in touch with the data services people. Read this post for details (if you haven't gotten it sorted out already).

When I use spelling suggestions in BBCorrector, it erases previous characters and makes a big mess... Anyone else have that problem?

Yep (http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=21872). The boat is getting a little crowded, but I think there's a seat over there.

Anyone seen an update or a fix for this? I have the same issue myself.

Default HTTP response code: 504

I've installed BBCorrector on my device and it works fine using http://www.rebreathertech.com:81/cgi...ctorServer.cgi (execpt the fact that its american spellings), but when I try and use my own it does not play, giving hte error "BBCorrector Error: HTTP response code: 504"

I know this must be something to do with my server not being setup right but can't see where the problem lies. I'm not very ofay with Perl so any advice would be great.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7250/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I had to convert BBCorrectorServer.cgi from dos to unix. Try running dos2unix or flip against your BBCorrectorServer.cgi

Right previous problem was due to Windows Firewall being turned on, but now I'm getting a time out error. I've followed the instrustions in post #7 and have modified the CGI as follows:

Code:
#!c:/perl/bin

# The Aspell executable
my $cmdAspellExe = "\"C:/Program Files/Aspell/bin\"";
Is there anything else I am doing wrong?????

I am in the same boat with you Simon...if I point to a public server it works, but if I point to my server...it times out. I am about ready to give up on it.

SimonMac,

What happens if you type this into a web browser from a computer (without the quotes, of course, and using your server info)? And don't try it from the webserver computer, use a computer that is not on your LAN.

"www.yourserver.com/path_to_cgi/BBCorrectorServer.cgi?check=This is a tst"

Does it still timeout? How about just "www.yourserver.com" ? If either of those times out, it definately sounds like something wrong with your setup. Please provide more info about that...OS, server software, firewall info, router, etc. and maybe someone here can help.

Default Bad file descriptor??

How to setup BBCorrector Server under WindowsXP
------------------------------------------------

1) Install Perl (http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActivePerl/)

2) Install Aspell (http://aspell.net/win32/)

3) Create you IIS web site via the Microsoft Management Console

- right click your web site and select "Properties"
- select the "Home Directory" tab
- choose your "Local Path"
- in the "Application Settings" box, select "Configuration"
- select the "Mappings" tab
- make sure the extension ".cgi" is mapped to the Perl executable
"C:\perl\bin\perl.exe %s" (replace path as necessary)
- create a directory under your "Local Path" called cgi-bin and place
BBCorrectorServer.cgi there
- execute the following two commands:
adsutil.vbs SET w3svc/CreateCGIWithNewConsole "1"
adsutil.vbs SET w3svc/CreateProcessAsUser "0"
I found "adsutil.vbs" under C:\Inetpub\AdminScripts. Your mileage may vary but these
two commands MUST be run.
- restart your web site

4) Modify BBCorrectorServer.cgi to reflect your system configuration

- change perl executable path. Example:
#!d:/perl/bin/perl
- change path to aspell executable. Example:
my $cmdAspellExe = "\"D:/Program Files/Aspell/bin/aspell\"";

straight from the release notes.
I have followed this step by step and I'm on a Windows 2003 server and I get a "Bad file Descriptor" error. Did I miss a step?? any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to set one up on SBS2k3 and not having luck. Can you detail what you did to get yours working? There must be some differences in the setup vs WinXP since I had this working on WinXP a while back without any issues.

I've never tried to set it up on anything but apache but if you can post a little more detailed info I will try to help.

What exactly happens when you try to use BBCorrector?
Error Messages?
Can you run other Perl scripts over the internet?
Can you run Aspell from the commandline on the server?

If you open an internet browser on the server and type this (replacing the relevant details with your server info, of course):
Your_Server_URL/Path_to_BBCorrectorCGI/BBCorrectorServer.cgi?check=This is a tst

what happens?

Justelise - I am on BIS on verzion with a BB 7130e and this works.

Did you enter the dictionary link quoted earlier?

Did you check-off the MDS Proxy?

Did you give it permission to pass the firewall/make http connection (did you initially get a warning on first attempt)?

Oh, and tzarcone, thanks for doing this for us!
