Default No way to activate BBWeather

Unfortunately this reply is no good. I cannot go to properties from Menu - BBWeather as Alert Window appears: "Error:No Weather Profiles specified" and there is no way to do it from there.
When I go instead to Options - Advanced Options - Applications - BBWeather I can only Edit Permissions.
Looks like there is no way to activate this program, contrary to what this thread's title claims. Can anyone give me please a coherent and clear instruction? Thanks.

Try putting your zip code in instead of the 8 digit code from the weather websites... That fixed mine

Were do you put the zipcode in? I am loosing my faith in me being ever able to use (or at least check out) BBWeather, as still stuck with the alert: "Error No weather profiles specified". I am new to BB and that's why can't understand general instruction and need something more specific.
Thanks for any help guys (and gals).

I will speak slowly.

Start BBWeather.
After it says "No profiles"
CLICK THE PEARL - do not touch any other keys. CLICK THE PEARL.

At this point, after you CLICK THE PEARL - you should be able to go into Options and add a profile and also "Disable MDS Proxy". You may have to click the pearl twice.

It really does work.

I was having DNS connections problems so I just uninstalled it and reinstalled it OTA. Works fine now.

If you are in the US just use the zip code. If not a search of the forum will find you the link. Dont have it handy.

I found a different way to get the codes for cities outside of the US - I go to weather.com and get the local forecast for that city. I look in the URL address, and the code is in there (UKXX0085 is London, England, for example).

Not elegant, but it works!

Unhappy

I'm gettin' the "Error: Open tunnel - failure" message like some other people have. Any suggestions? I'd really love to see what this application's all about...

Do you have any other third party apps working that access the internet. Search for that you and will find a number of threads. Configure your APN and TCP for your carrier to start with.

Sorry, but what's APN & TCP and how would I go about doing that (and more importantly, what does that do)?

Sorry, new BB user. ;)

Oh, and what's OTA?

OTA is Over The Air downloads.

APN and TCP are settings you will find in Advanced Options that allow the BB to get to the internet. Search for the threads on the BB weather options and you should find them for your carrier. I think they are also in my 8700 tips doc for TM's tethering. Let us know if that works.
