No internet on BB8520

I have an 8520 with T-Mobile. I just bought 6 months internet access. I received a confirmation email, and the money has been taken from my credit. Despite all efforts, it won't connect. The status should read GPRS, but it says gprs. I have been through all the 'fix-my-phone' diagnostics on the T-Mobile website, but to no avail. I have phoned the customer services line, but just get a recording. I tried a hard reset by removing the battery. That restores the GPRS status, but when I try to connect the blue 'requesting' status bar takes an age to finish, and then I get a message saying that the internet is unavailable. Any suggestion, please?
