Yes but it's like using a toothbrush without toothpaste.

Also, depending on your carrier, it may not be possible to activate a BB without a data plan.

It's possible, sure... but why would you want to do that? You're cutting off most of the phone's great functionality by not having a data package.

I am running my BB right now with out a BB plan and actually hate it. I would suggest getting the plan because it works wonders. If you have it now then take it off you will lose some privledges that you were once able to do such as internet search and blackberry messenger. Which you a BB plan to run.

Good luck on your endevors

My BBerry has data, my wife's does not. She loves her phone and uses as a PDA/Camera/Phone and is happy. Just have to turn of the data connection so it does connect.

This is on AT&T if that helps.

I don't like this post... (just kidding...)

johnlatessa ----> I am going to tell you why. Because my SP doesn't not offer this kind of Service, that is why i am with a Bluetooth device......

Well I really want it but it is impossible, they don't offer...

If you get rid of your data plan, you won't be able to get email sent to the phone, you won't be able to use any IM programs, you won't be able to use the BlackBerry maps or Google Maps, you won't be able to download and install any OTA themes or applications.

Both of our children have BBs without data plans. They use them as PDAs, text like crazy, use the phones and are very happy with them.

My wife and I have data plans. Different people have different requirements.

I was reading again. I am killing for having BIS on my device. But is something that is out of my hands.

I use the BB as a PHONE, and is pretty nice, but of course it will be better with Internet.. i know that.

About your kids, soon you are going to change their PLAN. I am sure of it...

It is totally a personal choice of how to use a BB. I used my BB for over a month without any data plan and then I realized I am missing the fun. Then I switched over to a data plan .. had enough fun and finally settled down with just an email only plan which till now has been OK for me.

It is. And not only that, but it's perfectly suited for some people... despite what the naysayers in this thread like to parrot without considering the needs/wants of the person asking the question. One size fits all, right?

Just be aware what the limitations are. As a rule of thumb, if you're ok with just voice, SMS, and syncing stuff by cable then it's probably a good match. If not (i.e. you want email, to browse the web or use any internet-enabled apps), you'll want the BB data plan.

I don't want a data plan; I just don't want to be that connected. Hubby and I use our BB for PDA, phone, and camera. The only thing I would like to be able to do is download a couple of apps from my computer. Is that possible?
